Job Description - Sr. Heavy Duty Mechanic

Job Summary


The Senior Heavy-Duty Mechanic is responsible for advanced diagnostics, repair, maintenance, and overhaul of heavy-duty vehicles and diesel-powered equipment. This role requires strong technical expertise, leadership in the shop, and the ability to mentor junior mechanics while ensuring work meets manufacturer and safety standards.



Key Responsibilities



  • Perform advanced diagnostics and complex repairs on diesel engines, transmissions, braking systems, and electrical systems

  • Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical, hydraulic, and electronic issues efficiently

  • Lead and support junior mechanics, providing guidance and technical expertise

  • Ensure all repairs comply with manufacturer specifications and safety regulations

  • Accurately document diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance records

  • Communicate effectively with service advisors, supervisors, and customers when required

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment

  • Stay current with industry technology, tools, and service procedures



Required Qualifications



  • Certification in diesel engine repair

  • ASM (Automotive Service Management or Automotive Service Excellence – as applicable) certification

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in heavy-duty diagnostics and repair

  • Proven expertise in diesel engines and heavy-duty vehicle systems



Preferred Qualifications



  • Minimum 3 years of experience at a Ford dealership

  • Prior Army or Navy mechanical experience

  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision



Skills & Competencies



  • Advanced diagnostic and troubleshooting skills

  • Strong understanding of diesel and heavy-duty mechanical systems

  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship

  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
