Position Details:

Stewards Individual Placement Program (STE) provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. Participants work with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits building institutional capacity, developing community relationships, and supporting ecosystem health.

Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center and Fort Mandan Historic Site are part of North Dakota State Historical Society and is connected to the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail. This interpretive center has actively worked to create space and interpretive programming on the inclusive history and culture of the Lewis and Clark story in North Dakota through exhibits, displays, living history and special events. This intern program, sponsored by the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail, is designed to help with the interpretation and history of the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center and Fort Mandan Historic Site. This will be accomplished by learning the history and culture displayed in the center exhibits, panels, education material, mentorship, and other pertinent information to educate and inspire visitors to Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center and Fort Mandan State Historic Site and its connection to the story of Lewis and Clark.

The intern will also engage with the Lewis and Clark Trail team on a monthly basis to make connections and bridge communications.

Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail was designated by Congress to commemorate the 1803 to 1806 Corps of Discovery expedition. Working with partners like the ND Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center and Fort Mandan Historic Site, there is a shared identity for preservation of historic, cultural, and natural resources associated with the region, tribal partners and the expedition in U.S. and tribal history. This epic journey contributed significant scientific knowledge and profound political, social, economic, cultural, and environmental changes to the peoples and landscapes of the North American continent.

This internship position will work with MHA Interpretive Center to interpret the history, culture and preservation of the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail and partner sites history and culture. The work will involve giving talks, interpreting natural and historic features, answering questions, guiding tours, and providing miscellaneous services to visitors, some outreach and connecting partnerships with the trail and host sites.

[This internship position will be based at the MHA Interpretive centers but plans to work with other strongly cultural related departments like Culture and Language as well as the Tribal Historic preservation office. The work will provide a diverse and well understanding of the Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara nation. Working on an oral history project, learning tours, and being acquainted with what it takes to run a collection and everything in between]

Position Responsibilities will include:

· Interpreting the history, culture, and information pertaining to Mandan, Hidatsa, Arikara Interpretive Center

· Practicing and teaching safety awareness for MHA Interpretive Center

· Public Speaking

· Research/Data Entry

· Additional duties assigned by the site

Minimum Requirements:

· One year of college

· Possession of a valid driver’s license and ability to safely operate a vehicle.

· The ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal format.

· The ability to work with a team and coordinate activities with other team members.

Local - Individual within 20miles of Mandan, Hidatsa, Arikara Interpretive Center

· Language Diversity

· Bachelors’ Degree in related field

· CPR and First Aid Certification

Value of education award is $1,824.07 (pre-tax).

· Living Allowance: $530/week (pre-tax)

· Housing Allowance: $200/week pre-tax (No On-Site Housing)

· $850 in Professional Development Funds

Qualifications:

Possess creative talent in conceptual design and rendering skills of either hand or computer sketching.

Advanced space planning skills and an interest in programming.

Knowledge of design, trends, construction methodology, materials application and manufacturer-supplier appropriateness.

Advanced knowledge of furniture, fixture and equipment (FF&E), architectural/interior finishes, lighting, art signage, color and materials to carryout design intent.

Advanced knowledge of building regulations and safety codes.

Advanced knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.

Advanced knowledge of sustainability, integrated design and LEED guidelines.

Knowledge of buildingSMART, Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Integrated Project Delivery (IPD).

Proven ability to prioritize in order to meet deadlines and provide high quality service to clients.

Proficiency in the basic technical skills of interior design including the following computer skills:

Proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook.

Proficiency in Newforma preferred.

Proficiency in AutoCAD/Architectural Desktop.

Proficiency in Revit is preferred.

Proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketchup, and InDesign graphic software.

Knowledge of 3D Modeling software such as 3D Studio Max and Viz 2006.

Ability to effectively meet deadlines.

Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Ability to work in team environment.
