The Senior Legal Assistant provides advanced, high-level litigation support to attorneys and paralegals handling complex personal injury matters. This role requires strong legal knowledge, independent judgment, and the ability to anticipate case needs. The Senior Legal Assistant owns key aspects of file progression, ensures accuracy and compliance in all legal documentation, and maintains seamless coordination across attorneys, paralegals, clients, medical providers, opposing counsel, and the courts.

This position serves as a trusted resource within the litigation team, supporting case strategy, strengthening workflow efficiency, and contributing to the successful resolution of cases through expert organization, communication, and documentation management.

  

Advanced Case Support

  • Draft, proofread, and format sophisticated legal documents, including motions, discovery responses, deposition notices, subpoenas, affidavits, and correspondence.
  • Prepare complex medical chronologies, fact summaries, and litigation timelines.
  • Coordinate discovery production, track deadlines, and maintain detailed litigation calendars.
  • Manage and update case management systems with a high degree of accuracy.

Client, Medical, and Third-Party Coordination

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for clients regarding scheduling, case updates, and document needs.
  • Obtain and track medical records, bills, liens, affidavits, HIPAA authorizations,      and expert documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with medical providers, insurance adjusters, outside vendors,      and opposing counsel.

Court and Filing Responsibilities

  • Handle all e-filing for state and federal courts, ensuring compliance with procedural rules and deadlines.
  • Prepare and submit motions, notices, and supporting documents with minimal attorney revision.

Litigation & Trial Preparation

  • Assist attorneys and paralegals with trial preparation, including exhibit lists,      witness lists, trial binders, demonstratives, and evidentiary materials.
  • Organize and prepare deposition materials and summaries.

Workflow Leadership & Support

  • Mentor junior legal assistants by providing guidance on drafting, case organization, and best practices.
  • Identify workflow gaps and recommend process improvements to enhance litigation efficiency.
  • Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and a high level of discretion always.

Requirements

  

  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a legal litigation assistant, preferably in personal injury.
  • Thorough understanding of PI litigation phases, discovery, medical records, liens, and court procedures.
  • Proficiency with legal case management software, Microsoft Office Suite, and e-filing platforms.
  • Strong working knowledge of Illinois court rules; familiarity with federal practice is a plus.

  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage high-volume caseloads and strict deadlines.

  • Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively across litigation teams 

Salary Description

$60 - $70k; annually
