As a Sr. Principal Electrical Engineer \u2013 Command \u0026 Data Handling (C\u0026DH) for the Vehicle \u0026 Software Engineering directorate in Gilbert, Arizona, you\u2019ll be a linchpin in missions of paramount importance, defining the art of the possible from day one. \n\n\nWe are seeking a highly experienced and technically authoritative Electrical Engineer to lead the architecture, design, and implementation of Command and Data Handling (C\u0026DH) systems for advanced spacecraft platforms. The Sr. Principal Electrical Engineer \u2013 Command \u0026 Data Handling (C\u0026DH) will be responsible for the electrical system design, architecture, and the avionics that control spacecraft functions, manage internal and external data flows, store data, receive commands, and transmit data to ground stations or other satellites. This position also entails driving system\u2011level electrical design across flight hardware, ensuring robust, reliable, and scalable data and control architectures. \n\n\nThe selected candidate will serve as a key technical leader, influencing cross\u2011disciplinary teams spanning avionics, software, guidance/navigation/control (GNC), and mission operations.\n\nJob responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:\n\n * Lead the end-to-end architecture of spacecraft Command \u0026 Data Handling systems, including data buses, processing units, and system interfaces.\n * Define and own electrical system architecture, ensuring alignment across C\u0026DH, electrical subsystems, and harness design\n * Drive design and integration of:\n * Flight computers and embedded processing systems\n * Data buses (e.g., SpaceWire, CAN, Ethernet, RS-422/485)\n * Telemetry, command, and fault management systems\n * Establish and maintain system-level requirements, interface control documents (ICDs), and verification strategies\n * Oversee hardware/software integration, ensuring seamless interaction between flight software and electrical systems\n * Perform electrical interface compatibility verifications and verify electrical connectivity implementation (e.g. verify electrical harness implementation, safety-critical circuit segregation, support peer-reviews).\n * Guide and review harness architecture and implementation, ensuring reliability, manufacturability, and maintainability\n * Lead design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, etc.) and support mission readiness activities\n * Mentor junior engineers and act as a technical authority across multiple programs\n * Manage hardware command and telemetry implementation (e.g. develop and coordinate calibration and conversion curves for analog telemetry in coordination subsystem engineers, verify electrical/software implementation).\n * Identify Electrical Systems and C\u0026DH risks, develop risk mitigation plans for selected risks, and implement mitigations.\n * Interface with design and manufacturing groups to monitor component production process/progress to include Integration \u0026 Test (I\u0026T) and relaying that status to management along with potential solutions to stay on target.\n * Provide technical oversight to ensure the C\u0026DH electrical system is compliant and verifiable at the avionics digital and analog telemetry level.\n * Lead the costing \u0026 scheduling development for the C\u0026DH subsystem on major programs from initial RFP efforts through end of program life. Develop cost estimates for proposals and programs as required.\n * Manage program execution from a technical perspective, meeting deadlines, juggling multiple projects, and collaborating with various engineering disciplines and internal/external customers.\n * Ability to travel to other Northrop Grumman sites or customer locations (\u2264 10 % travel)\n\n\n\nBasic Qualifications:\n\n * Bachelor\u2019s degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) discipline with 8+ years of relevant engineering experience OR Master\u2019s degree in a STEM discipline with 6+ years of relevant engineering experience OR Ph.D. in a STEM discipline with 4+ years of relevant engineering experience\n * Demonstrated technical expertise in Electrical Systems or C\u0026DH subsystem engineering\n * Prior work experience in flight hardware development, including Material Review Boards (MRB), Parts, Materials \u0026 Processes (PM\u0026P), procurement, assembly documentation, and End Item Data Packages (EIDP).\n * Must be able and willing to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret/SCI clearance\n\n\n\nPreferred Qualifications:\n\n * Active DoD TS/SCI clearance\n * Bachelor\u2019s or Master\u2019s degree in Electrical Engineering\n * Experience leading teams of engineers managing resources and schedules\n * Experience with requirements tracking tool such as DOORS or CAMEO\n * Digital design experience (MBSE)\n * Experience developing FPGAs\n * Strong verbal and written communications skills\n * Experience with Earned Value Management (EVM) and creating variance reports\n * Hands-on mentality and a passion for fast-paced environments\n\n\n\nPrimary Level Salary Range: $122,800.00 - $184,200.00\n\nThe above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate\u0027s experience, education, skills and current market conditions.\n\nDepending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
