Our employees are not only part of history, they\u0027re making history.\n\nNorthrop Grumman is currently seeking an experienced Sr. Principal Engineer to provide support to our Armament Systems Business Unit team in our Plymouth, MN offices.\n\nPosition Description\n\nThis position provides multifunctional engineering guidance and support for manufacturing of current products, transition-to-production of new products, and testing of medium caliber ammunition. In general, as a lead member of an integrated product team, this individual will have a thorough understanding of both contract and technical requirements, be providing engineering support and work direction to distributed manufacturing and test locations, investigating and solving product and manufacturing issues, coordinating efforts between internal functional groups, supporting manufacturing and ammunition testing, supporting communications with both internal and external customers, and providing support and oversight to material suppliers.\n\nTypical Duties (Including but not limited to)\n\n * Act as the technical interface to internal and external customers and form working relationships with representatives of these organizations\n * Support the Program Manager as a control account manager to ensure accurate schedule and cost tracking\n * Provide work direction and engineering support to our distributed manufacturing and test locations with responsibilities to:\n * Assist in the resolution of complex manufacturing line process issues such as machining, metal finishing, painting, heat treating, electrical and/or mechanical assembly, and test\n * Research and evaluate commercially available tools and equipment to support manufacturing improvement activities\n * Develop new, and improve existing manufacturing processes\n * Develop task releases and introduce into the manufacturing system\n * Develop test plans and support in execution\n * Prepare for and support various engineering reviews including Build Readiness Reviews, Production Readiness Reviews, and Test Readiness Reviews\n * Coordinate manufacturing efforts between internal functional disciplines including Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality, Manufacturing, and Test.\n * Work with the program team on design and manufacturability issues including root cause analysis and corrective actions on processes and products for both internal and external sources\n * As the engineer responsible for the product Technical Data Package, support the creation and release of Engineering Changes, disposition of tooling and gauge changes from internal and external sources, disposition of non-conforming products from internal and external sources, and approval of proposed process changes from internal and external sources\n * Ownership of the creation, review, and maintenance of all necessary documentation required for new and existing manufacturing programs.\n * Manufacturing work instructions\n * Manufacturing bills of material and build lists\n * TDP reviews for correctness and completeness\n * Ensure appropriate documentation is in Configuration Management system\n * Assist in the preparation of engineering and program proposals\n * Assist in the preparation of and participate in customer meetings and program reviews\n * Domestic travel up to about 25%. Ability to travel internationally.\n\n\n\nMinimum Experience and Skills\n\n * Bachelor of Science degree in an Engineering discipline plus 8 years of experience; or Master\u2019s degree in an Engineering discipline plus 6 years of experience in design and manufacturing environment relevant to the typical duties listed above.\n * Ability to guide successful completion of significant projects and provide leadership, work direction, mentoring, and coordination of other technical team members.\n * Significant experience working and communicating with customers, program management, and engineering management\n * Technical understanding of mechanical systems, electromechanical systems, manufacturing processes, metal coatings, heat treatments, metal fabrication, and/or standard assembly processes\n * Applies knowledge of engineering and scientific methods, theories and research techniques in the disciplined investigation and solution of technical problems.\n * The person filling this position must be able to work with a wide variety of multi-disciplined organizations, in remote settings, interact with them frequently, building strong trusting relationships.\n * Experience and proficiency in working with multiple projects.\n * Self-motivated to start and complete quality work\n * Strong written and verbal communication skills\n * Strong computer skills and fluency in Microsoft Office applications.\n * Applicants selected may be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.\n * US CITIZENSHIP REQUIRED.\n\n\n\nDesired/Preferred Experience and Skills\n\n * Familiarity and experience with energetic materials typically found in medium caliber ammunition.\n * Familiarity and experience with the manufacture and test of medium caliber ammunition.\n * Experience working at a site compliant with AS9100D, ISO 9001:2015, or equivalent.\n * Experience leading projects and people.\n\n\n\nPrimary Level Salary Range: $123,400.00 - $185,000.00\n\nThe above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate\u0027s experience, education, skills and current market conditions.\n\nDepending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
