EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
• Eight years of experience in research administration
• Strong knowledge of federal regulations governing academic medical center research.
• Two years of prior management experience. 

Preferred Qualifications\: 

• Master's degree in research administration, public health, regulatory affairs, or related field.
• Certification such as CIP, CCRP, CRA or equivalent
• Prior experience with Grants & Contracts.
• Attention to detail and deadlines.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Experience with Peoplesoft FMS, InfoEd, and Effort Reporting.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and multitask accordingly.
• Ability to communicate across organizational levels and platforms.
• Ability to adapt to new software programs and changing environments.

JOB SUMMARY

Serves as a primary source of expertise, training, and education in matters relating to government regulation of externally funded research to the UTMB research community on behalf of the offices of Research Services. Will be responsible and acting on the Associate Director's behalf in their absence.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Provide direction and supervision of post-award grant management, including ensuring that the grants accounting procedures are in place and followed.
• Provide assistance to principal investigators in the preparation of complex grants and contract proposals including formatting of proposals and utilization of reference software.
• Prepare and analyze financial reports specifically those related to grants accounts by faculty member and expense category with the goals of assuring that expenses are charged appropriately, that no account is in deficit and that all employees are properly sourced. 
• Monitor, review, and supervise time and effort reporting and certification.
• Meet with individual faculty members to review financial and effort commitment reports monthly.  
• Supervision and direction of staff delegated related assignments.
• Prepare and monitor monthly and quarterly reports reflecting comparison of Time & Effort entries, budgeted effort, and salary funding sources.
• Advises principal investigators regarding grant applications, deadlines, and projections for future research funds.
• Assist principal investigators with annual progress reports and grant submissions.
• Seek funding opportunities for investigators based on their areas of expertise and interest.
• Furnish information and guidance as to the use and content of university and grantor/contractor forms.
• Review completed applications and contracts for accuracy and compliance with the requirements of the University and funding agency.
• Review service contracts and affiliation agreements.
• Review and make recommendations on proposed budget changes in order to determine whether such changes are permissible under the terms of the grants or contracts.
• Administer and maintain the disbursements of grants pertaining to budgetary guidelines including personnel sourcing.
• Assist with grant /protocol preparation and submission to IRB, OCR, IACUC or OSP under direction of the Principal Investigator responding to stipulations when requested.
• Under direction of PI may draft various communications with Sponsor and/or regulatory documents to be sent to the Sponsor.
• Utilize eRA Commons, eBRAP, proposalCENTRAL and other online portals for project management and project-related submissions.
• Responsible for progress report completion and submission.
• Responsible for data entry in grants database.
• Perform related duties as required.
