Job Description - Sr Retirement Plan Consultant - Urgent Position

Location: Glendale, CA

Compensation$ 85K-$125K (possibly more) and full benefits – position would be in house

A growing regional organization is looking to add to staff a retirement plan consultant.  This person would oversee a caseload of 200+ retirement plans.  They would mostly be communicating through phone and video conferencing but would occasionally travel to meet with the client in person.  This individual would be responsible for multiple duties that are outlined below. 

Retirement Plan Expertise

  • Demonstrate a true specialty in retirement plan consulting
  • Understand the rigorous ERISA standards, offer best practices to plan fiduciaries
  • Stay updated on litigation, legislation and regulations impacting plan fiduciaries
  • Understand the engagement of the Investment Advisor Fiduciary and the differences between non-discretionary and discretionary
  • Educate Plan Fiduciaries on their responsibilities
  • Be familiar with the roles of the Department of Labor and the IRS and how it relates to Qualified Plans
  • Work with Vendors such as Third-Party Administrators, Recordkeepers and Auditors to help plan sponsor operate the plan to the highest fiduciary standard
  • Assist in Business Development and actively be involved in establishing new client relationships
  • Read all Vendor fee disclosures and verify for accuracy, Understand Vendor contracts and all plan documents
  • Possess a deep understanding of the Vendor roles to provide seamless customer service in our client experience
  • Formally prepare benchmarking analysis every three years, or as needed, on administration of plan, record keeping and advisory services to maintain a successful and competitively priced plan
  • Understand and provide guidance on Vendor Service Agreements
  • Preparing, producing and presenting the fiduciary investment monitoring report
        • Review, research investments and understand how funds pass or fail our Firm’s investment criteria
        • Demonstrate a deep understanding of the Firm’s 3(38) Core line-up
        • Understand at a high level, the criteria to evaluate both active and passive investment managers and articulate the process to plan fiduciaries. Demonstrate that you understand the markets, economic factors and present knowledge of current market events
  • Have working knowledge of retirement plan conversions and assist in the coordination of any changes recommended by plan sponsor
  • Determine appropriate movement of assets and communicate the decision effectively to the Plan Sponsor
  • Understand how to implement a new retirement plan and possess a deep knowledge of the required disclosures to plan participants
  • Provide one on one financial advice to plan participants, as well as facilitate group meetings and demonstrate a general understand of most financial concepts
  • Educate participants on their role of making sound investment decisions by understanding risk and long term, disciplined investment strategies
  • Document to the highest standard advice given, demonstrate that the investment advice was prudent and, in the individual’s, best interest at all times
  • Possess the ability to construct a well-diversified portfolio using plan investments
  • Take care in providing financial guidance to plan participants and understand that confidentiality of information shared is our highest priority
  • Assess participant risk tolerance
  • Demonstrate an understanding of taxes and how they impact retirement *we do not provide tax advice

Requirements:

- Minimum Degree Required: Bachelor’s degree

- Series 65 or the ability to obtain it in a 3-month time frame
