Sr. Software Engineer I

Symetra has an exciting new opportunity to join us as a Sr. Software Engineer I!\n\nAbout the role\n\nAs a Senior Software Engineer I, you will build and maintain secure, scalable software with a strong focus on production stability and long\u2011term reliability. You will own production support and bug resolution, working closely with the product support team to triage issues, analyze root causes, and deliver durable fixes across both modern and legacy systems. This role partners in design discussions, code reviews, testing, and CI/CD support while contributing to an inclusive, collaborative engineering culture.\n\nWhat you will do\n\n * Develop secure, high quality, performant scalable code, using the required programming language and tools. \n * Participate in design reviews, provide recommendations into design discussions. \n * Define and perform unit testing of code. Check out our Symetra Benefits Overview\n\n\n\nCompensation\n\nSalary Range: $106,400 - $177,300 plus eligibility for the company annual bonus program.\n\nWho You Are: \n\n * You have a high school diploma (required), plus a Bachelor\u0027s degree in engineering, Computer Science, or a related field and six years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience. \n * In\u2011depth knowledge of cloud architecture and design, including design patterns, reliability, and scalability, with hands\u2011on experience using AWS services such as Lambda, ECS, SNS/SQS, and DynamoDB\n * Strong programming experience with JavaScript and TypeScript\n * Experience working with database technologies, including both relational and NoSQL\n * Solid understanding of developer tooling across the SDLC, including task management, source control, build, deployment, and operations \n * Experience with CI/CD tools and workflows\n * Experience using Azure DevOps is preferred \n * Experience with LLMs and agentic programming, including responsible use of AI assistance, validating and refining generated outputs, and knowing the latest with emerging tools and best practices, is preferred \n * Exceptional communicator with strong analytical and problem\u2011solving skills and a data\u2011driven approach to decision\u2011making\n\n\n\nWe empower inclusion \nAt Symetra, we aspire to be the most inclusive insurance company in the country.
