Job Description - Staff Accountant

Description

PURPOSE:

The Staff Accountant plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records within our

manufacturing environment. This position is responsible for a variety of accounting functions, with a strong

emphasis on preparing and recording journal entries, account reconciliations, and detailed reports. Join a

EDUCATION AND/OR PROFESSIONAL LICENSE(s):

B.S. in Accounting or equivalent education and experience.

EXPERIENCE:

Two to Three (2-3) years experience in general accounting.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and experience with accounting software (SAP S/4 Hana ERP system a plus)
  • Strong mathematical, accounting, and analytical skills, with demonstrated critical thinking, and problem solving skills
  • Quick learner, creative, with passion and desire to succeed and grow in the role
  • Ability and willingness to work in a collaborative team environment

Requirements

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain and reconcile various general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and adjustments, including those related to manufacturing operations.
  • Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual general ledger closing activities within SAP.
  • Ensure all financial transactions are recorded accurately and in compliance with GAAP and internal policies.
  • Review and reconcile intercompany transactions.
  • Record and manage fixed assets, including additions, disposals, and depreciation calculations, primarily within SAP’s Asset Accounting module.
  • Provide support for external and internal audits by preparing necessary documentation and explanations.
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations and ensure accuracy of cash balances within SAP.
  • Assist with daily cash management activities as required.
  • Recommend and implement process improvements to existing processes and reports.
  • Review and release labor to the General Ledger for Production and Engineering projects.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual sales tax returns.
  • Act as backup for hourly payroll processing.
  • Schedule flexibility to support critical deadlines may be required.

Position is that of an Individual contributor

CONTACT WITH OTHERS:

Position requires daily and monthly contact with the Director of Corporate Accounting & Treasury, Corporate

Accounting Manager, Senior Corporate Accountant, and other Finance personnel.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL/COMMUNICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or

controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and

taste or smell. The employee may lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by the job

may include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to

adjust focus. The individual must have a high level of comprehension, and a high level of general, verbal,

written, and numerical intelligence.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Works majority of the day in a climate-controlled environment, with the exception of or otherwise specified,

performing work in the warehouse or manufacturing areas which are subject to changes in temperature and/or

noise.

TRAVEL:

Generally, travel is not required

 

LOCATION:

Gentex’s Carbondale facility is located in Northeastern Pennsylvania in Lackawanna County. Carbondale, PA is about twenty miles north of Scranton, PA, 50 miles south of Binghamton, NY, and about 125 miles from New York City and Philadelphia. The area hosts numerous nearby state parks, nature preserves and local colleges and universities, including The University of Scranton and Marywood University. Northeast Pennsylvania is a beautiful area and offers an excellent cost of living. It is a great place to work, recreate, meet people, raise a family and live!
