The Staff Accountant supports core accounting operations, including managing subsidiary ledgers, balance sheet accounts, travel and expense documentation, and recurring journal entries. The role also provides support to Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable team members.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Prepare recurring monthly journal entries and assist with month-end close processes.
Assist Accounts Receivable by handling lien waivers, account setups, customer inquiries, and order releases, as well as receiving and posting payments, and auditing daily journal entries.
Set up and compile monthly commissions.
Compile and complete monthly financial statements, monthly and quarterly financial reporting packages with the Accounting Manager.
Maintain and update the fixed asset schedule.
Lead the documentation of finance processes.
Collaborate with IT on PowerBI development and provide backup support.
Reconcile and maintain subsidiary ledgers and balance sheet accounts.
Review and process payments, including checks, ACH, and Carrier, as needed.
Assist Accounts Payable with invoice processing.
Administer and reconcile travel and expense (T&E) reports and provide them to Payroll for reimbursement.
Compile and file monthly sales and use tax returns for multiple states.
Participate in and promote continuous learning and development through training initiatives such as MN Air University, HR programs, tech-support courses, webinars, or other job-related trainings to foster continuous learning and development mindset.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES
Strong analytical skills for interpreting financial data and identifying trends.
Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and take initiative.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.
One to three years of experience in accounting, including general ledger maintenance.
Equivalent combinations of education and relevant experience will also be considered.
