Job Description:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Staff Accountant to join our finance team in a dynamic civil construction environment. The ideal candidate will be responsible for supporting day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and maintaining compliance with industry-specific regulations and internal controls.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare and post journal entries, reconcile general ledger accounts, and assist with month-end and year-end close processes.


• Prepare work-in-progress (WIP) schedules.


• Assist in preparing financial statements and reports for internal and external stakeholders.


• Support payroll processing and ensure proper allocation of labor costs to projects.


• Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules.


• Collaborate with project managers to ensure accurate budget tracking and cost control.


• Assist with audits, tax filings, and compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.


• Continuously improve accounting processes and systems for efficiency and accuracy.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.


• 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably in the construction or engineering industry.


• Strong understanding of GAAP and job cost accounting.


• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Viewpoint, Sage 300, or similar).


• Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with ERP systems.


• Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.


• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with construction-specific accounting practices (e.g., AIA billing, retainage, lien waivers).
