Job Summary:
Holy Angels is seeking a detail-oriented and mission-driven Staff Accountant to support core accounting functions and program-specific financial operations. This role plays a vital part in maintaining financial integrity across departments, with a focus on accounts receivable, payroll, journal entries, and financial tracking for AngelCare and other specialized programs. The Staff Accountant collaborates closely with the Director of Finance and CFO to support audits, reporting, and strategic financial initiatives.
Specific Skills and Responsibilities:
Accounts Receivable and Payroll
- Manage accounts receivable, including billing and collections for Community School Programs
- Process payroll and prepare related journal entries and reconciliations
Program-Specific Financial Oversight
- Monitor financial activity for AngelCare (day program and therapeutic services)
- Ensure accurate billing, cost allocation, and compliance with funding requirements
Fixed Assets and Journal Entries
- Maintain fixed asset records, track acquisitions and disposals
- Prepare depreciation schedules and post journal entries to the general ledger in accordance with GAAP and internal policies
Reconciliation and Reporting
- Reconcile bank statements and other financial accounts on a monthly basis
- Assist in month-end and year-end closing processes, including accruals and financial reporting
Audit Support and Special Projects
- Prepare schedules, documentation, and supporting materials for internal and external audits
- Support special projects, financial analysis, and reporting tasks as assigned by the Director of Finance or CFO
Qualifications:
Experience
- 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably in healthcare or nonprofit sectors
- Proven track record in accounts payable/receivable, general ledger maintenance, and financial reconciliations
- Experience supporting audits and preparing documentation for external review
Technical Proficiency
- Strong command of accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, or similar ERP systems)
- Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and financial modeling
- Comfortable navigating Medicaid reimbursement systems and AR reconciliation tools
Core Competencies
- Strong understanding of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles
- Experience with accounts receivable, payroll, and fixed asset management
- Proficiency in journal entry preparation and financial reconciliation
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to financial accuracy
- Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively across departments
Education:
- Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Familiarity with GAAP and nonprofit financial reporting standards
Work Environment:
- Must be able to work with individuals with developmental disabilities
Physical Demands:
- Walk, stand, sit, push, pull, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, use hands and lift up to 50lbs, 2/3’s of the time
