Job Description - Staff Accountant

As a Staff Accountant with Scout Clean Energy, you will play an integral role in building a tightly knit and highly productive team. You will have the opportunity to learn about the many facets of a wind developer and operator’s accounting, ranging from day-to-day transactions, to month-end project financials, to due diligence on acquisitions, to the requirements of tax equity investors. You will be responsible for accurately completing a variety of accounting tasks on firm timelines, assuring our company’s ability to continue to drive growth and meet our commitments to our staff, investors, communities, and business partners.

You will feel very much a part of our team, despite our mostly remote work environment due to COVID. Our team meets daily to review our priorities and progress towards important milestones. Throughout the day, you will interface with the Controller, Manager, and the other Staff Accountant as we work together to complete each day’s assignments and make progress toward longer term projects. You will also communicate directly with staff throughout Scout to secure required approvals, clarifications, and to manage expectations going forward. The Staff Accountant reports directly to the Senior Corporate Accountant.

The ideal candidate will seek to master the tasks initially assigned to them while maintaining a growth mindset, stepping in to support others on the team with new responsibilities as they emerge. To start, the Staff Accountant will have the following responsibilities:

  • Complete timely and accurate processing of day-to-day transactions, such as accounts payable, accruals, schedules, expense reports, accounts receivable, job costing, journal entries, bank reconciliations, and others.

  • Prepare schedules and reports to support cash management, budgets, and account reconciliations and analysis.

  • Maintain and update supporting documentation, such as fixed assets schedules.

  • Assist with all aspects of accounting and the preparation of financial statements in accordance with generally accepting accounting principles (GAAP) in a multi-company environment.

  • Review financial data for accuracy; identify problems and support day-to-day operations.

  • Research and reconcile discrepancies and verify documents as prescribed by accounting procedures and policies.

  • Ad hoc assignments and special projects as required.

The successful candidate’s passion for renewable and clean energy will create a real connection to our work and to our broader team. Our new Staff Accountant will understand the service-oriented nature of this position and will bring the maturity needed to interact with many personality types and competing priorities. We seek someone with a desire to continuously improve and to support the development of processes that drive our team’s efficiency.

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related business field.
  • 2-4 years of experience in accounting; this may include internships in accounting.
  • Previous experience in energy, construction, or real estate development will help you understand our typical reporting cycles.
  • High attention to detail and the ability to work proactively and productively in a team environment without direct supervision.
  • Demonstrated experience with key software systems:
  • Required: Working experience with accounting systems and the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Preferred: Intermediate proficiency with Excel (e.g., VLOOKUP, Pivot Table)
  • Optional: SQL experience.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including experience with writing, editing, or collaboration on operational procedures.
  • Ability to maintain information confidentiality and handle with discretion.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a flat organization, successfully leveraging the expertise of multiple colleagues in different lines of reporting.
  • Experience using influence rather than authority to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

Timeline and Location

This position will begin as soon as possible, preferably in November 2025.

Our ideal candidate will able to commute to our Boulder office at least three times each week.
