Description

Join Goodwin Knight, whose mission is "Making Life Better by building attainable housing for the 'missing middle'." All Goodwin Knight projects target the "missing middle", those who make too much to qualify for a subsidy but not enough to afford the sky-high cost of housing. Goodwin Knight is a subsidiary of The Challenger Group, a top 50 homebuilder in the United States. We are seeking a Staff Accountant I or II.

    

Job Title: Staff Accountant                               Company: Goodwin Knight, LLC 

Department: Accounting & Finance              Reports to: Goodwin Knight Corporate Controller

Job Type: Regular Full-Time                             Work Hours: M-TH 8-5, Friday 8-12 

Effective Date: February 2026                        Exemption Status: Nonexempt

Salary Range: $60,000 - $75,000/year (DOE)

Profit Sharing: Company Profit Sharing is available and varies based on business results.

Role Summary: Detail-oriented accountant who performs accounting tasks in collaboration with internal departments. As a member of the accounting team, assists in daily, monthly, and annual activities, audits, resolving discrepancies, reporting, and ad hoc duties as assigned. 

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Essential Functions:

  • Collaborates with internal departments to gather and analyze relevant financial data
  • Enters financial data such as accruals, deferrals, reclassifications, and interdepartmental entries into the ledger
  • Performs account analysis to ensure that journal entries and balances are correct
  • Complies with internal accounting procedures
  • Maintains accurate records, including ledgers, journals, receipts, and invoices
  • Supports the loan draw processes and Accounts Payable processes as needed
  • Gathers supporting documentation and performs recordkeeping
  • Assists with preparation for annual audits
  • Performs administrative and other tasks as needed
  • Assists with special projects as needed
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management

Minimum Required Education/Credentials/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:  

· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting 

· Knowledge of accounting standards and industry regulations

· Competency in accounting and business management software

· Proficient in Excel

· Strong analytical, time management, and organizational skills

· Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in entering financial data

· Ability to maintain confidentiality

· Ability to communicate well at all levels of the organization

· Experience and/or desire to participate in reviewing tax returns (Partnerships – Form 1065)

Work Environment/Physical Requirements: 

Work Environment: Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Physical Demands: Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
