Headquartered in San Diego, Mulligan Funding serves as a leading provider of working capital (Up to $5M) to the small and medium-sized businesses that fuel our country. Since 2008, we have prided ourselves on our collaborative, innovative, and customer-focused approach. Enjoying a period of unprecedented growth, driven by the combination of cutting-edge technology, human touch, and unwavering integrity, we are looking to add to our people first culture, with highly motivated and results-oriented professionals, to push the limits of what’s possible while creating value for all of our partners.

Mulligan Funding deploys a powerful combination of statistically grounded credit strategy and robust manual underwriting to deliver credit performance aligned with our risk appetite while providing an outstanding customer experience.

The Staff Data Scientist, Funnel Analytics & Optimization is a key member of the Risk & Analytics team, responsible for analyzing end-to-end customer funnel performance and designing analytical frameworks that drive meaningful improvements in conversion, efficiency, and customer outcomes for a small-business portfolio.

This role focuses on identifying friction points, drop-offs, and operational bottlenecks across the acquisition, underwriting, and application/funding funnel. The position partners closely with Risk leadership, Operations, Product, and Analytics teams to translate insights into actionable strategies that improve funnel conversion while maintaining strong risk discipline and customer experience.

This role follows a hybrid work schedule with three days onsite and two days remote each week, with Mondays designated as a mandatory onsite day.

You will:

  • Analyze end-to-end funnel performance across acquisition, application, underwriting, and funding stages to identify conversion trends and structural inefficiencies

  • Design and maintain analytical frameworks, metrics, and dashboards to monitor funnel health, conversion rates, and customer drop-off patterns

  • Identify root causes of customer attrition and dropout at each funnel stage using quantitative analysis and cohort-based methodologies

  • Partner with Operations, Underwriting, and Product teams to design and evaluate strategies that reduce customer friction and improve completion rates

  • Support test-and-learn initiatives, including A/B testing and controlled experiments, to measure the impact of funnel optimization efforts

  • Develop segmentation and behavioral analyses to identify populations with elevated dropout risk or conversion opportunity

  • Translate analytical findings into clear, actionable recommendations for senior leadership and cross-functional partners

  • Monitor post-implementation results to ensure sustained improvement and surface second-order impacts on risk, cost, and customer experience

  • Contribute to documentation and standardization of funnel analytics best practices

  • Performs other duties as assigned

You have:

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in analytics or data science within fintech, financial services, or a data-driven consumer or B2B environment

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience analyzing customer funnels, conversion metrics, or operational workflows

  • Demonstrated experience partnering with operations or frontline teams to translate analytics into execution

  • Experience supporting experimentation, measurement, and performance monitoring in production environments

  • Master’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Economics, Finance, or a related quantitative discipline required.

We offer:

  • Medical, vision, and dental benefits to support you and your family.

  • Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) for eligible healthcare and dependent care expenses.

  • A 401(k) with matching contributions to help you plan for retirement.

  • Paid time off, including sick leave, vacation, and holidays.

  • Paid parental leave for growing families.

  • A Lifestyle Spending Account (LSA) for athletic and wellness expenses.

  • An employer-sponsored Life and AD&D policy, with options for additional coverage.

  • A Learning Stipend for professional development activities.

  • An Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and travel assistance services.

  • Complimentary snacks and refreshments in the breakroom.

  • A referral program that rewards you for bringing in top talent.

  • Company events to connect, celebrate, and grow together.

$180,000 - $250,000 a year
