Position Summary: This position is located in the Dental Department at the Northeastern Tribal Health System, Miami, Oklahoma. The purpose of this position is to provide general, basic dental care.

Position responsibilities:

• Provide emergency dental care which may include extractions, restoration, and endodontic treatment and medications.
• Perform routine dental examinations and prevention, which may include taking X-rays.
• Document patient chief complaint, objective and subjective findings, diagnosis and treatment provided.
• Provide routine dental care services consistent with diagnosis of need and within the scope of approved dental privileges.
• Maintain confidentiality of medical records and other information as required by applicable laws, HIPAA regulations and policies.
• Knowledge of proper documentation of needed and provided including use of ADA codes.
• Employee is expected to provide care for all patients eligible for care at NTHS. The care provided will be within the range of services available.
• Supervises the functions and staff of the Dental department in the absence of the Chief Dentist.
• Ensures department is maintaining AAAHC accreditations practices.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Essential skills and experience:

• Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) Degree or Doctor of Medicinal Dentistry (DMD) Degree.
• Must maintain active State License.
• Must maintain active DEA License.
• Two to five years of Dental Experience.
• Leadership: demonstrated ability to lead people and get results through others.
• Management: ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Problem analysis and problem resolution at both a strategic and functional level.

Valued but not required skills and experience:

• Experience supervising a team.

Reporting to this position: Dental Hygienist, Dental Assistants, Dental Registration Clerk in the absence of the Chief Dentist.

Physical Demands: While performing duties of job, employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Employee must occasionally lift and/ or move up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment: Working in close contact with patients mean exposure to communicable diseases. Work demands sitting and bending for periods of time while providing dental care. Physical strength in arms is required for extractions. Frequent fine motor muscular demands on hands is required while using hand instruments and headpieces.
