Job Description - Staff Offshore Petrophysicist

Job Summary

Murphy Exploration and Production seeks a technically capable and experienced Petrophysicist for the Houston office to support deep water Gulf of Mexico (GOM) development and near field exploration. We are looking for a candidate with a track record of verified petrophysical evaluations of GOM wells, support of interdisciplinary technical projects as well as planning and execution of formation evaluation programs for deep water projects. As a key member of our multidisciplinary asset teams, you'll collaborate with geoscientists, reservoir engineers, operations geologists, drilling, completion, and facilities engineers.

The Staff Petrophysicist will work in our Houston Corporate office and may work remotely two (2) days per week.

Responsibilities

Formation evaluation and development of petrophysical models for Upper through Lower Tertiary turbidite reservoirs for deep water offshore Gulf of Mexico
Participate with multidisciplinary asset teams that undertake subsurface technical evaluations and reservoir characterization projects. i.e. Static/Dynamic modeling, QI seismic analysis
Integration and calibration of core to wireline and LWD log data to provide volumetric determination, lithological determination, fluid contacts and completions recommendations
Maintain and update the field specific petrophysical models, integrating and reconciling existing and future data from all subsurface disciplines
Manage well data for development fields, making evaluations, interpretations, and assessments available for integration by asset team members
Formation Evaluation (FE) data acquisition activities include planning and execution of FE programs and procedures for coring, core analysis, LWD and wireline logging, data quality control, computer processing, and data management
Support all aspects of open hole log well logging applications and interpretation of routine and advanced core analysis
Perform operational petrophysics while drilling, real time evaluation, collection of formation pressures, fluid samples and rotary sidewall cores in coordination with Operations Geology
Liaise with FE Vendors (core analysis, coring, mudlogging, wireline, and LWD), Geological Operations and in-house experts, to verify operational procedures are being executed with high standards of safety, quality, and best practices
Champion petrophysical knowledge sharing / mentorship across the subsurface organization
Undertake petrophysical regional studies to support near field exploration and development teams in their efforts to evaluate new basins/plays and improve reservoir characterization of strategic assets
Qualifications/ Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Geoscience or Engineering Discipline
Minimum 14 years of Petrophysical -Evaluation experience within the oil industry, service company or operator
Deep water Gulf of Mexico turbidite reservoir evaluation experience
Experience with petrophysical software packages: Geolog. IP and Techlog considered on a case-by-case basis
Database management experience. Must be willing to perform front-end data loading and conditioning of log curve data (depth align, edit, splice, and environmentally correct logs, as needed prior to any analysis), and manage daily reporting and data transfer/sharing during active well operations
Experienced in advanced methods of post core retrieval handling and analysis techniques
Demonstrated ability to design well logging and core analysis programs in deepwater reservoir systems that are fit for purpose.
Experience with analysis of formation pressures and samples from wireline and LWD for fluid contacts, fluid type, and reservoir quality.
Strong presentation and communication skills, written and verbal.
Strong organizational skills and is willing to take ownership of data management.

Master's degree preferred
Provide conditioned log data for Pore Pressure Predictions for pre-drill modeling and Pore pressure prediction
Multi-mineral petrophysical interpretation
Image log processing and interpretation
NMR log processing and interpretation
Rock physics - AVO Analysis
Reservoir quality prediction software (Touchstone)
Unconventional evaluation experience
Wilcox evaluation experience.
