Job Description - Staff Software Engineer

Our Opportunity:
Chewy is looking for a

Staff Software

Engineer

for our Logistics Team in our Supply Chain organization. This engineer will help develop and execute the services and functions for their team and thereby help Chewy to accelerate technological growth and reach new customers. This is a high visibility and high-impact role with influence that cuts across all of Chewy’s technology organization and contributes to the strategic design and planning for their team. The organization develops micro-services and tools that enable, support, and optimize processes and practices for Chewy Supply Chain logistics, Transportation and Delivery Experience technology systems. This role includes software development for new systems and developing new features for existing systems. Further, this engineer will collaborate across the engineering organization to create best practices and help to map the overall ecosystem for Chewy's service architecture.
What you'll do:
Working with other technology teams, you and your team will design and build software systems that enable Supply Chain, Transportation and Delivery Experience automation for our customers. You’ll integrate with and extract from other critical Supply Chain, Fulfillment and Business Intelligence systems. You will own entire life-cycle of product development while innovating and envisioning for long term technology. Prototype and develop new software systems with web and cloud technologies.
Design and develop distributed systems for cloud computing.
Help your team to design code that is logical, maintainable, scalable, modular, monitorable, highly available, secure, and performant.
Help your team to meet service-level SLAs and KPIs by design. Be an owner of service quality and operational excellence.
Help team to establish API contracts that are maintainable and meet customer use cases.
Establish and champion architectural standards best practices that enable automated test and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD).
Lead different tech teams and large project/product development while guiding junior team members with best practices.
Work in an Agile development environment, collaborating with multiple cross functional teams.
Experiment with new technologies to optimize benefit to the business.
What you'll need:
Bachelors degree in computer science or related engineering field or equivalent work experience.
10+ years of software development experience working on modern software systems solving problems of scale and performance.
Full stack development experience, including experience with Spring Boot, Hibernate, and JPA, JavaScript or any other modern programming languages.
Excellent customer service skills, including verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Knowledge of professional software engineering practices for the full software development life cycle including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
Proficiency in Computer Science fundamentals – object oriented design, data structures, algorithm - design, problem solving, and complexity analysis
Bonus:
Experience building e-commerce/ Supply chain / Fulfillment / Internet applications.
Experience leading technical teams while providing technology direction/guidance.
Experience with Scrum, XP or other agile methodologies.
Experience with data analysis/mining in large scale database environments.
