Job Description - Staff Veterinarian/Study Investigator

Clinvet USA is a global veterinary contract research organization (CRO) that conducts in vitro, preclinical, and clinical trials to evaluate animal health products' safety, metabolism, and efficacy. Clinvet is part of the Clinglobal group of companies, an animal health-focused group of CROs dedicated to supporting innovation and product development. With a wealth of research experience, Clinvet has supported leading global animal health companies, small and medium-sized companies, and start-ups with their research and development programs since 1999.



Primary Job Purpose:


The Staff Veterinarian is responsible for assisting the Attending Veterinarian and Veterinary Care team in the direct or indirect animal health care on site. The Staff Veterinarian, as needed, will serve as a Study Investigator or Study Director taking responsibility for managing and overseeing all aspects of studies assigned to be conducted.



Veterinary and Animal Care Responsibilities:



  • Responsible for the well-being and clinical care of animals used in research, testing, and teaching.

  • Monitoring and promoting animal well-being at all times during animal use, and during all phases of the animal’s life.

  • Treatment of animals and instituting appropriate measures to relieve pain or distress, including euthanasia.

  • Conduct, when required, clinical examinations, analysis, procedures, and surgery according to internal and professional standards.

  • Interpret and analyze test results.

  • Participate in the advisement on health regarding animals involved in the conduct of studies at the facility.

  • Provide guidance and oversight to surgery programs and peri-operative care.

  • When necessary, give input on study protocols, the development of study removal criteria, and responsible conduct of research activities.

  • Examination, reporting, and follow-up of potential adverse events that may arise.


Study Investigator/Director Responsibilities:



  • As needed, serve as Investigator/Study Director on studies as appointed by the Test Facility Management.

  • Draft study proposals and budget development; protocol development, writing, editing, and review; study report writing, editing, and review.

  • Draft and submission of research approvals to IACUC and IBC, including addressing questions received from these committees.

  • Overseeing the receipt, dispensing, and disposal of imported biological material according to the import permit and protocol requirements.

  • Manage and oversee study phases outsourced to approved external laboratories, consultants, and vendors.

  • Provide guidance and training on studies to research and technical staff.

  • Study sponsor interaction and effective and timely communication to study sponsor representatives, study monitors, and site management on study progress and results.

  • Coordinate and participate in day-to-day research activities such as dose preparation, administration, observation, sample collection and other related research tasks.


Qualifications, Training, and Experience Requirements:



  • Licensed Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) registered to practice in New York State.

  • Must be qualified and knowledgeable of GLP and GCP regulations, USDA Title 9 animal welfare requirements, and the conduct of regulated studies.

  • Two or more years of research experience.


Salary and Benefits:



  • The annual salary range for this position is $110,000-$125,000 based on experience, skills, knowledge, ability and other relevant credentials.

Other Information:



  • The Staff Veterinarian is an in-person full-time position with typical hours of Monday through Friday 8 am to 4:30 pm.

  • This position requires occasionally working on evenings, weekends, and holidays based on an on-call system and company needs.
