Job Description - Stage Manager

Vitacca Ballet & School for Dance is a dance training academy and performing arts organization based in the Houston, Texas area. The organization provides structured dance education for children, teens, and pre professional dancers while also producing live ballet and contemporary dance performances through its affiliated company, Vitacca Ballet. The school focuses on high quality dance instruction, performance preparation, and community engagement through productions, showcases, and seasonal performances. Vitacca Ballet & School for Dance is seeking a Stage Manager to coordinate and oversee technical and backstage operations for rehearsals, studio showcases, and live performances. This role ensures productions run smoothly by organizing rehearsal logistics, coordinating performers and technical staff, and managing stage activities during performances. The Stage Manager works closely with instructors, choreographers, performers, and production staff to maintain professional production standards while supporting a safe and organized performance environment.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate backstage operations for rehearsals, dress rehearsals, and performances
  • Prepare rehearsal schedules and stage cue sheets in collaboration with instructors and choreographers
  • Manage stage setup including placement of props, rehearsal equipment, and stage markers
  • Operate or assist with stage communication systems such as headsets and cue calls during performances
  • Supervise performer movement backstage to ensure proper timing and smooth transitions between acts
  • Maintain production materials including prop lists, performance schedules, and stage documentation
  • Assist with lighting, sound coordination, and stage equipment preparation when required
  • Ensure safety standards are followed for stage areas, rehearsal spaces, and technical equipment
  • Bachelor’s degree in Theater Production, Performing Arts Management, Stage Management, or a related field preferred
  • Prior experience in stage management, live performance production, dance productions, or theater environments
  • Familiarity with stage equipment including communication headsets, cue lighting systems, audio playback equipment, and backstage management tools
  • Ability to read rehearsal schedules, cue sheets, and production run sheets
  • Strong organizational and communication skills for coordinating performers and production staff
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends during rehearsals, showcases, and live performances
  • Basic knowledge of lighting, sound, and stage setup used in dance or theater productions
  • Ability to work in a fast paced rehearsal and performance environment while maintaining attention to detail
