Stationary Engineer I

Responsibilities:Provides adequate HVAC (heating, cooling, electrical, plumbing) for museum physical plantMaintains mechanical equipment for museum physical plant and other propertiesReviews daily equipment logs for accuracyReviews meter readings for accuracyMaintains museum vehicles, grounds, and other special projects (power washing, painting, minor construction, etc.)Completes assigned work orders in a timely fashionEscorts E&F contractors to work sites on MFAH properties and supervises workWorks on installation and de-installation of exhibitions with Curatorial, Preparations, Lighting, and ElectricalInstalls and de-installs banners for exhibitionsAssists in the installation and de-installation of the Retail shop for rotating exhibitionsSets up and breaks down tables, chairs, and other equipment for eventsOperates various aerial lifts (20ft to 85ft) and fork lifts to complete tasksDrives cargo van, box truck, and pickup truck to and from work sitesAs part of the essential staff- protects museum properties during natural disasters (hurricanes, floods, ice storms, etc.) Performs other duties as assignedSkills, Knowledge, and Abilities:Working knowledge of A/C, heating, steam boilers, chillers, air handling units, electrical, plumbing, and auxiliary equipmentAble to read building printsRequired to work rotating shifts, weekends, and overtimeAble to respond to emergency calls when off dutyAble to lift 75 lbs. or more and able perform a variety of physical tasks, including lifting heavy equipment, bending and stoopingStrong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate and interact with Museum employees, outside contractors, and the general publicAble to communicate effectively both verbally and in writingExcellent organizational skills with the ability to focus on details; effectively prioritize and handle multiple tasks.Must have a valid Texas driver license and good driving recordMust have experience with METASYS Building Automation SystemEducation and Experience:Possess a City of Houston 1st, 2nd or 3rd Grade Stationary Engineers LicenseHigh school diploma or equivalent Minimum two years of experience in a similar capacity in a similar size and type facilityThe successful candidate will be required to meet our pre-employment background screening and physical exam requirements.
