Reports To: Plant Supervisor / Operations Manager


Employment Type: Full-time, On-site


Position Summary


We are seeking a Licensed Steam Operator to operate the Control Room, boilers, water softeners, and related equipment in a cogeneration and steam plant. The plant burns natural gas to produce electricity and steam for a refinery and mine. Excess electricity is sold to a utility. Equipment includes gas turbines, generators, boilers, water softeners, pumps, water wells, and electrical distribution systems.


This role requires an active stationary engineer or boiler operator license (state or local jurisdiction). The ideal candidate is safety-focused, mechanically inclined, and capable of working independently in a remote industrial environment.


Essential Job Duties



  • Operate the Control Room in the Cogeneration and Steam Plant

  • Operate boilers and related auxiliary equipment

  • Draw water samples and perform chemical tests; adjust chemical feed rates as needed

  • Open and close valves; start and stop pumps

  • Light boilers and monitor equipment for proper operation

  • Operate plant water softeners and related equipment

  • Unload salt trucks into softener brine pits

  • Adhere to and support Health, Safety, Environmental & Quality (HSEQ) compliance standards


Other Functions



  • Perform minor repairs and equipment lubrication as required

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area

  • Maintain records, tallies, and reports as required

  • Assist in training Fuel Tenders or less experienced operators

  • Operate lockout/tagout (LOTO) equipment


Qualifications


Required:



  • Active stationary engineer, boiler operator, or steam operator license (state or local jurisdiction)

  • Experience operating industrial boilers, steam turbines, or cogeneration plants

  • Knowledge of water treatment, chemical testing, and boiler chemistry

  • Ability to read and interpret gauges, meters, and control panel displays

  • Basic mechanical aptitude for minor repairs and equipment checks

  • Willingness to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed

  • Ability to work in a remote industrial environment


Preferred:



  • Experience in a refinery, mine, or power plant setting

  • Familiarity with gas turbines or generators

  • Knowledge of lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures


Working Conditions



  • Exposure to heat, noise, chemicals, and industrial hazards (PPE provided)

  • Physical requirements: standing, walking, climbing stairs/ladders, lifting up to 50 lbs

  • On-site position; no remote work
