We’re looking for a dependable and detail-driven Steel Shop Craftsman to join our fabrication team. This hands-on position is responsible for transforming raw steel into high-quality components by reading blueprints, fabricating parts to specification, and preparing materials for the finishing process. From welding to operating heavy machinery, this role plays a key part in bringing each project to life.
The Steel Shop Craftsman must be able to work safely and efficiently with a variety of tools and equipment, including welders, torches, pipe benders, and overhead cranes. Accuracy in measurement, labeling, and material tracking is critical, as is a strong work ethic and a team-first attitude. Ideal candidates will have a background in structural steel work, with a willingness to grow and obtain certifications as needed.

These duties are not meant to be all-inclusive and other duties may be assigned.
Welding and fabrication of raw materials
See projects through from raw material to primed stage
Ability to read and interpret a variety of blueprints
Fabricate steel material per blueprints and Keller Steel Materials (SM) orders
Assure accuracy of all dimensions and labeling of projects
Maintain accurate material usage (inventory) records
Comply with and maintain all OSHA and Keller safety rules
Unload incoming material and verify shipment is complete
Operate several types of machinery and a variety of hand tools - welders, oxy/acet torch, plasma, pipe benders, band saw, forklift, overhead crane, and paint system
Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates the knowledge and ability to perform the work
Wisconsin structural welding certification (Preferred) or ability to obtain this certification within 3 months of hire
Experience with fabricating metal railings (Preferred)
Strong mathematical skills
Detailed workmanship and ownership mentality
Ability to work in a team environment and individually
Ability to lift heavy objects to waist level regularly (0-100lbs)
Ability to stand for long periods of time while performing physical labor
Must be able to reach, bend, push/pull, and twist to position material
