STEP Center Specialist (DSP/Job Coach/caregiver)

As a STEP Center Program Specialist, you’ll be part of a caring team that supports people in reaching their personal and work goals. We believe everyone deserves a chance to succeed. Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8AM-4PM (May require occasional evening or weekend hours, eligible for overtime)

Starting Pay: $17.50 - $20 per hour, DOE (annual raises)

What You'll Do:

• Help adults with disabilities build job and life skills
• Plan and execute client activities every day 
• Keep activity and health records updated in a computer
• Support your coworkers with training and daily tasks
• Make sure work areas are clean and safe
• Attend team meetings and help plan transportation
• Coach people as they learn and grow in jobs
• Help keep track of supplies and safety checks
• Drive clients to day-time activities using a company vehicle
• Reconcile client petty cash funds and submit request for funds as needed

Requirements

• Must be 18 years of age or older
• Must pass a pre-employment background check, drug test, and driving records check
• Must maintain a clean background check (renewed every 2 years, or more frequently as required)
• Must have and maintain a valid driver's license that is insurable by Horizon Project's auto insurance (Ability to drive and operate a company vehicle is required)
• Must have prior experience working with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities

 Skills:

• Good communication and organizational skills
• Able to work with a team 
• Ability to work without direct supervision from manager
• Can work in a loud, sometime chaotic environment
• Communicate clearly and effectively in English (spoken and written)
• Intermediate computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, Adobe, Print/Copy/Fax)

Physical Demands

Position is active in nature. Must be able to monitor and observe the activities of program participants. Regularly move about or position self to supervise and interact with participants at their level. Occasionally lift, transport, position, push/pull or move up to 50 pounds using proper lifting techniques. Must be sufficiently mobile and possess a range of motion to perform repetitive standing, walking, balancing, stooping, bending, crouching, crawling, sitting on the floor, reaching, squatting, kneeling, and twisting. Ability to react quickly to the physical actions of program participant. Administrative and supervisory activities will require ability to operate keyboard-driven equipment. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Sufficiently mobile to attend activities and meetings within the County. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
