Riggs Washington DC sits on the iconic downtown corner of Penn Quarter’s 9th and F Street in a historic building once home to Riggs National Bank. Each of the Hotel’s 181 guest rooms offers a playful nod to the building’s legacy. Riggs is home to the all-occasion European brasserie-inspired restaurant Café Riggs, as well as Silver Lyan – a subterranean bar from the internationally acclaimed Ryan Chetiyawardana, also known as Mr Lyan.

We are seeking a Steward to join our Culinary and Food & Beverage team and support the operation through cleanliness, organization, and attention to detail. This role is ideal for someone who takes pride in maintaining high standards, enjoys working behind the scenes, and understands that a clean and organized environment is essential to delivering exceptional guest experiences.

The Steward plays a critical role in supporting kitchen and restaurant operations by ensuring all dishware, cookware, equipment, and work areas are cleaned, sanitized, and maintained according to company and health department standards.

Steward – Essential Functions

• Operate dishwashing equipment and maintain cleanliness of all kitchen and food service equipment
• Wash, sanitize, and properly store dishes, glassware, silverware, cookware, and kitchen utensils
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen workspaces, storage areas, walk-ins, and receiving areas
• Assist with the removal of trash, recyclables, and compost throughout the property
• Support kitchen teams with basic cleaning and organizational tasks as needed
• Ensure all cleaning and sanitation procedures comply with company standards and health department regulations
• Assist with receiving, stocking, and organizing supplies when necessary
• Maintain cleaning equipment and notify leadership of any maintenance concerns
• Support banquet, restaurant, and culinary operations through timely delivery and replenishment of clean equipment
• Follow all workplace safety procedures and maintain a safe working environment

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

• Previous stewarding, dishwashing, kitchen, or hospitality experience preferred, but not required
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
• Strong work ethic and dependable attendance
• Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team
• Basic understanding of sanitation and food safety practices preferred
• Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds
• Flexible schedule required, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
