Job Description - Store Manager

Position Reports to: Manager of Thrift Operations 



Position Description: Vapor’s Thrift Store location manager will drive revenue and profitability growth, targeting increased profit generation for the ministry.

         perceived value creation. 



Time Requirements: With sensitivity to personal and family needs in mind, this position will require at minimum 40 in-store working hours per week.



Travel Requirements: Intermittent travel to Vapor HQ for meetings and potentially to other VTS locations. Infrequent travel to participate in an international trip as an assistant leader will be offered.



Position Duties: Vapor’s Thrift Store location manager will drive revenue and profitability growth, targeting increased profit generation for the ministry.



  1. Leadership & Administration





    • With support of HR, source new candidates, interview them, and make hiring decisions, as well as make firing decisions where necessary.

    • Identify, develop, and promote potential leaders into Shift Leader/Leaders on Duty. 

    • Maintain a positive working environment by helping employees stay connected to the mission, see value in their work, resolve conflict, etc. 

    • Effectively delegate responsibility and decision rights. 

    • As a leader in the overall VTS franchise, identify policy and procedure gaps and work towards resolution with the VTS / HR / IT team.




    2. Receiving & Processing Operations 





    • Ensure effective receiving of donations, both on-site and remotely via pickup. In receiving, require an exceptional donor experience – convenience, kindness, and connection to the mission.

    • Ensure donated goods are being efficiently sorted, priced, staged, and stocked, driving a mentality of high processing quantity while ensuring a superior quality of stocked merchandise. 

    • Primary mandate is a store that is filled to capacity with quality merchandise. A “slipstream” of higher value or seasonal item displays is good, but must come second to the core business.




     3. Retail Operations 





    •  Ensure an exceptional and superior customer experience at VTS. Cleanliness, “shopability,” convenience, and safety in the store, and kindness, knowledge, and exceptional customer service from the staff.

    • Conduct seasonal promotions, sales, etc., to the extent that they create value for the organization.




4. Promotional Support for Vapor Ministries 





    • Primary objective is to generate profit; secondary objective is to raise awareness for Vapor in your community. Ensure clarity on why we do what we do among our customers, staff, donors, etc.




 5. Talent Management





    • Ability to source talent from within, boost team member engagement and understand how to help team members grow and align with valued mission.

    • Will ensure that new team members complete all items listed on the Onboarding
      Checklist, located under the Training tab in Bamboo.

    • Will conduct critical feedback, including the ability to have difficult conversations and address poor performance.

    • Ability to predict future talent needs to stay ahead of demand.
