POSITION TITLE: Storekeeper
DEPARTMENT: Finance

Position Summary
The Storekeeper is responsible for JCE Co-op warehouses and satellite storage areas, ensuring that electric, natural gas, and broadband construction materials and supplies are stocked, tracked, and issued in a timely, accurate, and OSHA-compliant manner.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
1. Inventory & Warehouse Operations
- Receive, inspect, label, and store materials; verify packing slips against purchase orders and resolve discrepancies.
- Maintain min/max quantities; generate requisitions, blanket orders, and direct buy requests to replenish stock.
- Perform cycle counts (monthly), semi-annual auditor inventories, and an annual physical inventory; reconcile variances between warehouse and accounting records.
- Segregate retired equipment into salvageable and non-salvageable categories; process scrap metals, transformers, poles, and wire per Illinois Pollution Control Board (PCB) regulations.
- Issue and return materials to work orders through electronic handheld or desktop devices to ensure real-time data integrity.
- Handle contractor needs by palletizing and staging materials for upcoming jobs.
- Disassemble salvaged materials and break down reels and pallets for storage or disposal.
- Shipping, Receiving & Logistics
- Prepare outbound freight and documentation (USPS, UPS, FedEx, DHL, LTL, private carrier).
- Load and unload trucks and trailers with forklifts, pallet jacks, and CDL A vehicles; secure loads following FMCSA cargo securement rules.
- Distribute incoming parcels and expedited documents to field crews and office personnel.
- Coordinate inter-warehouse transfers, pole yard staging, and wire management.
- Coordinate with Engineering or Utility Design Technicians on approved substitutions for materials and update construction units to ensure accuracy of pick listings.
- Safety, Compliance & Environmental
- Operate powered industrial trucks in accordance with OSHA?1910.178; complete daily inspection checklists.
- Maintain a valid Illinois CDL Class A license, current DOT medical card, and driver qualification file.
- Participate in required annual Illinois sexual harassment prevention training, confined space awareness, hazardous materials handling, and emergency response drills.
- Collect and submit oil/PCB samples; arrange for disposal of hazardous or universal waste through licensed vendors.
- Keep aisles, exits, and loading areas clean, dry, and free of obstruction; post and enforce PPE and safety signage.
- Administrative & Customer Service
- Enter purchase orders, inventory transactions, mileage logs, and time sheets accurately and on schedule.
- Produce inventory, usage, and variance reports for Finance and Operations leadership.
- Interact courteously with vendors, contractors, cooperative members, and employees; provide prompt material support during outages and annual meeting setup.
- Protect confidential information and comply with the Cooperative’s Acceptable Use, Data Security, and Drug Free Workplace policies (including cannabis impairment rules).
- Other Duties
- Respond to storm restoration call outs within contractually defined timelines.
- Run errands, deliver critical parts, and assist with special projects or annual meeting logistics.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned, consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Minimum Qualifications
Category Requirement
Education High school diploma or GED (required); coursework in supply chain, accounting, or utility technology (preferred).
Experience Two?(2)+ years in warehouse, inventory, or utility materials environment, including cycle counting and ERP data entry.
Licenses/Certs Required:Valid Illinois CDL Class A with current DOT medical card and insurable MVR; ability to obtain forklift certification within 60days.
Technical Skills Intermediate Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel); experience with NISC iVUE; ability to learn handheld inventory apps.
Knowledge Familiarity with RUS material codes, National Electric Code (NEC), National Electric Safety Code (NESC), OSHA/IDOL regulations, and basic accounting principles.
Abilities Read/interpret safety rules, schematics, and procedure manuals; write routine reports; lift 50 lbs frequently and 100 lbs occasionally; climb, bend, reach, and stand for extended periods in varied weather; solve problems and prioritize under time pressure; communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
Working Conditions / Physical Demands
Work is performed primarily in warehouse and outdoor yard settings with exposure to moderate noise, moving vehicles, and temperature extremes. Irregular hours, overtime, and on-call duty during storms are required. Reasonable accommodations may be made for qualified individuals with disabilities.
