Overview

The Strategic Account Manager is primarily responsible for resident and fellow education, training, certification, and clinical handoff continuum activities and, secondarily, for the ongoing sales and support of the company’s surgical products within U.S. ophthalmology teaching institutions, Veterans Affairs hospitals, and Department of Defense hospitals.


Responsibilities


• Create demand for the company’s surgical ophthalmology products within both company and industry-compliant guidelines

• Develop effective educational and sales presentations to differentiate the company’s products compared to existing surgical glaucoma treatment options with ophthalmic surgeons within the assigned territory

• Analyze data and manage the territory to create an effective business plan, including regular funnel management and forecasting

• Maintain knowledge of current trends in the ophthalmology industry and competitive products

• Manage territory budget and resources

• Complete administrative documentation in a timely manner and communicate with leadership regarding established key performance indicators and physician feedback

• Attend sales training workshops, sales meetings, national and regional conferences, and relevant trade shows

• Maintain direct contact with customers to support optimal clinical outcomes

• Establish and foster relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and emerging clinical leaders

• Pre-sale: Respond to customer inquiries to determine appropriate product literature and pricing schedules; collaborate internally regarding production and shipping timelines

• Post-sale: Respond to customer inquiries related to product returns, order status, and delivery; resolve production scheduling, shipping, or invoicing issues; assess warranty claims and coordinate service resources as needed

• Support company goals, objectives, policies, and procedures that comply with FDA Quality System Regulations (QSR), ISO 13485, and other applicable domestic or international regulatory requirements

• Maintain a professional and credible image with physicians, distributors, consultants, vendors, and internal team members


Skills & Qualifications


• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required

• 5+ years of sales experience, preferably including at least 3 years in ophthalmology or medical device sales with a demonstrated track record of success

• Proven sales performance within the medical device industry

• Ability to effectively navigate complex health systems and academic medical centers

• Strong relationship-building and account management skills

• Strong presentation and clinical education capabilities

• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Strong business acumen and territory management skills

• Required residence within the assigned territory

• Travel requirement: approximately 30%–60% overnight travel depending on territory needs

• Customer engagement: approximately 90% face-to-face interaction


Work Environment


Hybrid role with significant in-person engagement at academic institutions, government hospitals, and surgical centers.
