About the Role:

Job Summary

Under the supervision of a credentialed Physician, performs cardiac procedures and assists with more complex procedures in the Stress Lab.  Performs various procedures that require independent judgment, high level of skill proficiency and extensive knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the heart.  Performs care of critically ill patients. The scope of care includes age group adolescent thru geriatric. 

Minimum Job Qualifications

  • Licensure or other certifications: State Paramedic license. Current BLS and ACLS certification required. 

  • Educational Requirements: High School Diploma

  • Minimum Experience: 5 years experience in emergent care, critical care, or cardiology-focused acute care.

Essential Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Ensures that correct patient data is entered into stress testing machine and that correct technical factors for each patient are selected to achieve optimal picture quality.

  • Ensures that the correct patient, reason for procedure, and consent is obtained for the procedure ordered.

  • Ensures that correct procedural paperwork is completed.

  • Head to toe assessment of patient prior to procedure to ensure safety of patient during procedure.

  • Preps the procedure room and equipment for procedure to be performed, to include cleaning, removal of trash, and restocking of room between cases.

  • Maintains clean environment throughout non-invasive procedures and, at the end of the procedure, assures that all testing equipment is placed in the appropriate location and cleaned according to hospital policy.

  • Prepares for procedure in terms of specific supplies required according to the procedure.

  • Ensures patients are prepped and monitored appropriately, maintaining privacy and confidentiality.

  • Review of patient medications, labs and past/current medical history prior to initiation of procedure. If not within guidelines, will follow protocol to modify care.

  • Technician II runs the stress procedure independently and is responsible for the clinical well-being of the patient during these procedures, while imaging staff performs only the imaging component of the test to include: Nuclear stress tests (PET-CT, PET and SPECT imaging), Echo/Vascular stress tests (Stress Echo, Dobutamine Stress Echo, Low-dose Dobutamine, and Exercise Tolerance Test), Tilt Table Testing, Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing, Electrocardiogram, and Cardiac MRI Stress Testing.

  • Continuous monitoring of 12-lead EKG and interpretation, patient signs and symptoms

  • Recognition of any change in patient condition and initiates medication protocols independently.

  • Administers medications according to current NGHS Medication Administration policy 

  • Collaborates with the registered nurse or supervising stress physician with critical findings or needs for advanced level of care.

  • Performs and rotates through functions of pre, intra, and post stress, sedation and monitoring procedures.

  • Assist with Transesophageal Echocardiogram and Cardioversions; moderate and deep sedation procedures.

  • Sets up, operates, and troubleshoots stress testing and monitoring equipment, including ECG and structured report.

  • Ensures that required pre-, intra-, and post- procedure is present and accurate when documenting in the patient EMR.

  • Prepares and operates all specialized equipment found in the non-invasive cardiology environment.

  • Performs and documents daily operational functions on procedure room equipment on designated documentation form.

  • Ensures correct performable is selected for appropriate charges to be placed in system.

  • Independently able to switch from one modality to alternate modality whenever appropriate during a procedure.

  • Demonstrates ability to rapidly identify a life-threatening emergency, secure support and deliver care.

  • Expedites patient admissions, transfers, and discharges to decrease length of wait.

  • Facilitates patient admission or transfer to higher level of care.

  • Ability to work in all noninvasive related departments.

  • Maintains a team environment and culture.

  • Assumes responsibility for own personal and professional development.

  • Assists in orientation of new staff and/or serves as a mentor.  

  • Serves as facilitator between staff and Manager providing feedback as necessary.

  • Completes unit based skills annually.

  • Attends mandatory educational classes pertaining to new equipment, procedures, supplies, and new technology. Responsible for continuing education for required certifications.

  • Assists with the documentation for the department's PI programs and participates in the department's process improvement initiatives.
