Strings & Orchestra Teacher

The Austin Waldorf School is seeking a warm and enthusiastic strings and orchestra director to teach beginning level 3rd grade strings to advanced 9th-12th high school orchestra. The job description may include teaching other ensembles such as choir, and a music history course as a high school main lesson. This position may also serve as part of our Performing Arts Center management team. AWS has an outstanding faculty who fosters a spirit of collaboration and innovation and are deeply committed to Waldorf pedagogy and anthroposophy. Our program includes eurythmy, music, choir, strings & orchestra, handwork, arts, woodwork, as well as Spanish and German. Subject teachers joining our team are supported by professional development opportunities, a collaborative and experienced student support team, our school counselor, and librarian. 

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree or master's degree in music (music education degree preferred)

• Waldorf teacher certification/experience or interest in Waldorf education 

• Experience rehearsing student string ensemble and full symphonic orchestra

• Experience in choral/vocal music 

• Performing Art Center management skills needed

• Confidence in positive classroom management 

• Excellent written and social communication skills.

• Excellent collaboration skills and a spirit for innovation.
