Structural Engineer

GovFirst is seeking to hire multiple Structural Engineers to support bridge, tunnel, and related infrastructure projects across various locations in Virginia including Bristol, Fredericksburg, Hampton Roads, Norfolk, Newport News, Suffolk, Surry, Salem, Lynchburg, Staunton, Culpeper & Richmond, VA within the Transportation Operations Division. These engineers will be responsible for evaluating, designing, and reviewing structural projects ensuring safety, compliance, and technical accuracy.

Key Responsibilities:

• Evaluate and review bridges, tunnels, and other structural projects including cost estimates, technical specifications, and structural design plans.
  

• Apply civil engineering principles and practices related to structural design, material quantity calculations, and hydrology assessments.
  

• Read and interpret highway structure plans, AASHTO design specifications, and clearance requirements.
  

• Utilize engineering software such as MicroStation and other Microsoft applications for structural analysis and documentation.
  

• Coordinate with project stakeholders to ensure timely development, proper design implementation, and adherence to engineering standards.
  

• Provide recommendations for structural assessments and improvements based on thorough technical analysis.
  

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering with major coursework in structural engineering.
  

• Minimum of three (3) years of experience in bridges, tunnels, and other related structures.
  

• Considerable knowledge of civil engineering principles, bridge design, hydrology, and clearance assessments.
  

• Strong skills in reading highway structure plans and applying AASHTO structural design specifications.
  

• Proficient in engineering software including MicroStation and Microsoft Office Suite.
  

• Demonstrated ability to analyze technical information, perform evaluations, and support project development.
