Job Description - STU Student Director of Inclusion & Belonging

Description

Summary:

The Office of Inclusion & Belonging strives to provide students with an inclusive community by supporting students of color; members of our LGBTQ+ community (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning with the “+” [plus] representing all other gender identities and sexual orientations); international students; students of all religious, secular, and/or spiritual identities; and allies to persons within those communities. Student Directors of Inclusion and Belonging support the campus by leading programs that build bridges of understanding, through intercultural & interfaith engagement, and international student support. Student Directors create, facilitate, and assess programs of the Office. The position requires sensitivity and confidentiality as the programming impacts a diverse group of people. Prior knowledge or experience with intercultural, interfaith, or international work is helpful, but not necessary. Appreciation, care, and respect for others is essential. Specific Responsibilities:

  • Each Student Director is responsible for creating at least two programs per semester sponsored by the Inclusion & Belonging Office under the supervision of the I&B Coordinator – with the goal of education and intercultural bridge building
  • In addition, each Student Director will also have a specific role supporting the work of our office. The following is a brief description of each role:
  • Phenomenal Keuka Women (PKW) Coordinator – PKW is a program lead by a group of black and Latina women alumni who serve as mentors for Keuka students. The coordinator will be responsible for facilitating meetings with PKW mentees, matching mentors and mentees, creating opportunities for mentor panel discussions, and planning events.
  • First-Gen Student Beacon – The First- Gen Beacon provides support for Keuka College students who are the first in their family to attend college, responsible for planning the First-Gen Celebration in collaboration with the I & B Coordinator, acts as a liaison between the Office of I&B and HEOP
  • Interfaith Engagements Facilitators (2 positions) – Interfaith Engagement Facilitators run a weekly program called “Celebrate!” – a grab and go program celebrating different faith practices, identifies the needs of students from diverse religious faiths and secular/spiritual identities. Facilitators are responsible for planning World Interfaith Week in collaboration with the I&B Coordinator.
  • Heritage Month Programs – This Student Director is responsible for creating programs that raise awareness about the various Heritage Months and other special dates celebrated during our annual calendar and works with other Student Directors to shape special programs related to Heritage Months.
  • Provides one-on-one meetings with students involved in your programs during regularly scheduled office hours.

Requirements

Essential Responsibilities:

  •  Student Directors work to advance the mission of the Office of Inclusion & Belonging
  •  Planning and implementing programs, securing event locations, recruiting/utilizing volunteers, managing budgets, promoting activities, providing office support, and fulfilling other duties as assigned.
  •  Develop leadership, interpersonal, professional, communication, programming, and office skills.
  •  Responsible for ensuring that assigned tasks are completed in compliance with various institutional and regulatory requirements.
  •  Maintain a professional and courteous attitude at all times towards co-workers, internal and external customers, representing Keuka College, its programs, policies, and procedures in a positive and professional manner.
  •  Maintain effective working relationships to ensure institution-wide teamwork.
  •  Attend provided, necessary training and other meetings to support effectiveness within the position as required.
  •  Consistently demonstrate high standards of integrity by supporting the Keuka College mission, vision, and values and adhering to institutional policies.
  •  Maintain a high regard for student privacy in accordance with the FERPA privacy policies and procedures.
  •  Regular and reliable attendance is expected and required.
  •  Perform other functions as assigned by management.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Eligible for Work-Study
  2. Keuka College student in the traditional undergraduate on-campus program.
  3. Must be organized, creative, and self-motivated.
  4. Proficiency in MS Office, Google Suite, and Social Media.
  5. Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  6. Understand and behave with a high level of integrity and complete confidentiality at all times.
  7. Ability to be sensitive to and respond to needs/concerns of students, faculty, college staff and the public.
  8. Ability to work under pressure with a high tolerance for interruptions, and the ability to work with diverse groups of people.

Physical Requirements:

? Evening and weekend hours required.

? Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs.
