Job Description - Student Assistant - Academic Affairs

USAC is a nonprofit, university-affiliated study abroad organization headquartered on the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) campus. Since 1982, USAC has provided students with opportunities to gain the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to succeed in a global society. USAC currently operates 50+ programs in 25+ countries.

POSITION OVERVIEW 


The Student Assistant position is a part-time position that works closely with the Academic and Enrollment Services Department staff up to 10 hours a week.
The ideal candidate will have strong computer skills, experience with data entry and administrative office tasks, effective time management, and experience with Microsoft Office (especially Word), be task-driven, helpful, and willing to learn and tackle new challenges in a busy work environment.
 



GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Student communications 



  • Processing syllabus requests and managing the syllabus inbox 



  • Document, web, and database audit projects 



  • Drafting and editing official correspondence, including letters/emails of business, USAC documents, etc. 



  • Document review, updating, and uploading   



  • Maintaining confidentiality and accuracy of student records 



  • Manage detailed projects with responsibility and autonomy 



  • Assisting with USAC events 



  • Other duties as assigned

  • Basic receptionist/administrative experience 



  • Excellent communication skills 



  • Available to work up to 10 hours a week; Monday-Friday, 8am – 5pm 



  • International or study abroad experience preferred 



QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS 



  • Advanced level of written and oral communication skills 



  • Detail orientated and well organized 



  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction 



  • Proficiency in use of a personal computer and current software applications including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Access, Excel, and PowerPoint) 



Work environment & physical demands 


The duties of this job are mainly performed in a regular office environment with occasional small trips outdoors. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and walk throughout the building. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
