Our employment program requires a dedicated staff that is committed to supporting and training students in learning skills related to social, community, and vocational readiness, as well as independent living
The position exists to support the students of the Cardinal Transitional Academy in learning skills related to social, community, and vocational readiness, as well as independent living. This program will range from 6-15 students, depending on enrollment. The students that attend the educational program have cognitive disabilities, established IEP’s, and have completed traditional high school programming.
When school is not in session, this position will work with other Vocational Coordinators and day services programs to assist persons with disabilities in our day centers/community to reach their independent living, recreational, and work goals.
Responsibilities
Develop curriculum/activities to meet developmental goals and instructional activities
Prepare lesson plans and structure daily routine for students
Direct Para-Professionals in classroom with daily/weekly job tasks
Allocate 90% of time with students teaching daily-life skills
Exercise open and respectful communication with families, co-workers, supervisors, and other school staff
Measure progress and accomplishments of students towards their academic achievements on a regular basis, providing progress reports as required
Create and keep records on attendance, accidents, incidents, and other noteworthy events in accordance with program policies
Manage student behavior in accordance with outlined guidelines
Provide a safe, thriving, and respectful environment for all students in the classroom/school campus
Ensure safe work practices
Perform other duties as assigned with Vocational and Day Services when school is not in session
Requirements/Qualifications
Bachelors degree preferred
Experience working with people with disabilities
Ability to build effective/professional relationships with families and students
Experience developing and implementing age-appropriate curriculum
Proven ability to maintain a safe a studious classroom environment
Ability to build effective/professional relationships
Highly developed oral/written communication
Acceptable Background Character Verification
Valid drivers license and acceptable driving record
Demonstrate proficiency in computer software applications such as Microsoft Word
