Job Description - Student Services Assistant

About Hope Leadership Academy:


Hope Leadership Academy (HLA) is a tuition-free, public charter school serving grades Pre-K through 5 in Kansas City, MO. We are committed to creating a world-class neighborhood school that delivers academic excellence, character development, and strong family engagement. Position Overview:


The Student Services Assistant serves as the welcoming face of HLA and plays a vital role in supporting daily front office operations and student enrollment. This role ensures smooth communication between families, staff, and visitors while managing key administrative tasks related to attendance, records, and admissions. The ideal candidate is organized, friendly, and passionate about serving students and families.




Key Responsibilities:


Front Desk Operations



  • Greet students, families, staff, and visitors with professionalism and warmth


  • Answer incoming calls and direct inquiries to appropriate staff members


  • Manage student sign-in/sign-out and late arrival/early dismissal procedures


  • Receive and distribute mail, deliveries, and school correspondence


  • Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming front office environment


  • Support communication between school leadership and families



Student Enrollment & Records



  • Support new and returning student enrollment through application processing and family communication


  • Maintain accurate student files and documentation, both physical and digital


  • Assist families in completing required registration paperwork and uploading documents


  • Track enrollment numbers and share updates with leadership


  • Follow up with families regarding missing documentation or incomplete applications



Student Services & Support



  • Assist with daily attendance tracking and reporting


  • Monitor student health needs and communicate with the School Health Aide as needed


  • Provide support to students in the office as needed (illness, behavior resets, etc.)


  • Assist with family communication around events, schedules, and school updates





Qualifications:



  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree preferred


  • Previous experience in a school, customer service, or administrative setting (preferred)


  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills


  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) highly preferred


  • Comfortable using computers, databases, and digital communication tools


  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment with professionalism and confidentiality


  • Experience with PowerSchool preferred
