The University Supervisor is an adjunct faculty instructor in the Teachers College (TC) under The Office of Teacher Education Services and Clinical Practice (OTES-CP). The supervisor serves as the liaison between TC and the P-12 school where teachers candidates are placed for their student teaching experience. The primary function of the university supervisor is to provide guidance for the teacher candidate in their development of teaching competency, complete assessments which demonstrate that competency, and lend assistance to the mentor teacher.What you'll do and what you'll bring:
The University Supervisor is an adjunct faculty instructor in the Teachers College (TC) under The Office of Teacher Education Services and Clinical Practice (OTES-CP). The supervisor serves as the liaison between TC and the P-12 school where teacher candidates are placed for their student teaching experience.
The primary function of the university supervisor is to provide guidance for the teacher candidate in their development of teaching competency, complete assessments which demonstrate that competency, and lend assistance to the mentor teacher. University Supervisors also must:
Attend University Supervisor Training sessions prior to each semester as well as defined University Supervisor meetings.
Complete official visits to each P-12 school per student teacher. Should a student teacher need additional guidance, it is expected that the university supervisor conducts more visits, with the approval of the Executive Director of OTES-CP. Adjuncts are assigned a load based on the number of students in a particular content area requiring supervision rather than a specific geographic location. Onsite observation is usually required.
Conducting pre- and post-conference meetings for every formal observation to assist in improving instruction, analyzing problems, identifying strengths, and reflecting on teaching effectiveness.
Complete required evaluation forms and assessments as outlined and aligned to InTASC pre-service teacher candidate standards.
Ensure all student teaching requirements of the teacher candidate are completed.
Communicate weekly with assigned teacher candidates and their mentor teachers.
Suggest specific strategies or approaches to improve competency in each teacher candidate.
Assist teacher candidates in identifying and collecting appropriate activities for their edTPA portfolios.
Act as a resource for teacher candidates as they face the challenges of teaching and learning.
Assign a grade for each teacher candidate by using the appropriate rubric.
While we are accepting all teacher licensure areas, the greatest need is in the following content majors and locations.
K-6 Elementary Licensed Principals in supervision of Elementary and Early Childhood Transition to Teaching Candidates
5-12 Licensed Secondary Administrators in supervision of Secondary Transition to Teaching Candidates
Elementary Education (Muncie and Indianapolis)
Special Education (Muncie, Indianapolis, and Fort Wayne)
Early Childhood (Muncie, Indianapolis, and Fort Wayne)
Visual Arts Education (Muncie, Indianapolis), especially for spring 2027
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a field of teacher education from an accredited institution. Master's degree preferred.
Currently hold or have held a teaching license in a relevant field. If you are applying to supervise transition to teaching candidates, you must hold a principal's license or administrative license.
Experience teaching in the field in which you are licensed for at least three years in an accredited P-12 school or related administrative responsibilities in teacher education.
Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and be insurable under the university's auto fleet policy
Must have the means to travel to multiple school sites within a specific area, and be able to navigate and work within the University’s database and website systems.
Supervisors must be available to observe and conference with teacher candidates during the school day.
Those licensed to teach Early Childhood, Elementary, or Special Education, must have their Indiana literacy endorsement or be willing to go through approved training on the Science of Reading during their first semester of supervision.
