Submarine Operations Analyst providing specialized tactical and technical support for submarine assets participating in the Ship Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) Readiness and Effectiveness Measuring (SHAREM) program at the Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center (SMWDC). This unique position combines submarine warfare expertise with hands-on technical engineering capabilities, requiring extensive experience in submarine operations and the integration of technical systems. The role involves strategic planning for submarine employment in exercises, validation of submarine tactics, and comprehensive analysis of submarine sensor and weapons performance. You will serve as the primary submarine technical expert for SHAREM exercises, working in both submarine operational facilities and shipboard environments while conducting complex equipment installation and maintenance operations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Strategic Planning & Tactical Development
-Generate comprehensive plans that effectively employ submarines in ASW exercises involving U.S. and partner nation forces.
-Validate submarine tactics for complex exercise scenarios and operational environments.
-Support exercise planning conferences by providing submarine warfare expertise and tactical recommendations.
-Develop submarine-specific objectives and performance measures for exercise evaluation.
-Coordinate submarine participation requirements and tactical employment strategies during multi-platform exercises.
Submarine Operations & Data Collection
-Observe and collect required data and logs from submarines participating in SHAREM exercises.
-Brief and debrief submarine crews on exercise event plans, mission requirements, and tactical objectives.
-Support submarine operations during complex multi-day exercises involving surface ships, aircraft, and multiple submarine platforms.
-Coordinate submarine-specific data collection requirements and ensure proper mission data extraction procedures.
-Conduct post-mission analysis of submarine performance data and operational effectiveness.
Technical Equipment Installation & Maintenance
-Coordinate the assembly, installation, interfacing, removal, and system restoration of specialized tracking equipment used during exercises.
-Interpret technical schematics and resolve complex issues associated with equipment installation, removal, interfacing, repair, modification, and testing.
-Ensure proper restoration and operation of pertinent shipboard equipment following removal of tracking equipment.
-Conduct repair and testing of tracking equipment to maintain operational readiness throughout exercise periods.
-Interface with submarine systems and surface ship platforms to ensure seamless equipment integration
Submarine Systems Performance Assessment
-Use pertinent collected data to reconstruct detailed submarine tracks and tactical actions during exercises.
-Assess the performance of submarine sensors, systems, weapons, and countermeasures as they relate to specific exercise objectives.
-Evaluate submarine tactical employment effectiveness and integration with surface and aviation platforms.
-Analyze submarine mission data to support overall exercise reconstruction and tactical development objectives.
-Support validation of submarine-related tactics, techniques, and procedures through systematic performance analysis.
Technical Reporting & Communication
-Prepare technically accurate briefings, reports, and correspondence documenting submarine performance and technical findings.
-Author submarine-specific sections of exercise analysis reports, including performance assessments and tactical recommendations.
-Communicate submarine operations results and technical findings to naval commands, engineering laboratories, and program offices.
-Support Cross-REM analysis efforts focusing on submarine platform performance across multiple exercise datasets.
-Document technical procedures and lessons learned for equipment installation and maintenance operations.
Experience
-10+ years of Navy experience relating to submarine operations and warfare tasks
-3+ years of experience planning exercise activities, including submarines
-Experience in briefing and debriefing submarine crews on exercise event plans and mission results
-Experience in Navy submarine data collection, mission data extraction, and post-mission analysis
Required Competencies:
-Demonstrated capability for preparation of technically correct briefings, reports, and correspondence
-Proven technical skills in equipment installation, maintenance, and system integration
-Ability to interpret complex technical schematics and resolve equipment-related technical issues
-Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for submarine performance assessment
-Deep understanding of submarine warfare tactics, sensors, and weapons systems
-Ability to act independently while working effectively in cohesive collaborative team environments
-Exceptional written and communication skills for interaction with submarine crews, technical personnel, and program offices

COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS
-Security Clearance: Active SECRET clearance required at time of hire
-Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship required
-Background Check: Must pass NCIS background investigation
-CAC Requirements: Must obtain and maintain a Government Common Access Card
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
-Ability to work in submarine operational facilities, including piers, dry docks, and submarine maintenance areas
-Capability to embark and disembark naval vessels and submarines using various access methods
-Physical ability to install, maintain, and repair technical equipment in confined submarine and shipboard spaces
-Ability to lift and handle technical equipment, tools, and components up to 50 pounds
-Capability to work in challenging maritime environments and various weather conditions
-Ability to work extended hours during exercise periods and submarine operations
