Job Summary
We are seeking a Registered Nurse to join our team. In this role, you will primarily be creating and managing a plan of care for individual patients.
The Substance Use Recovery Nurse is responsible for providing compassionate, evidence-based care to individuals undergoing treatment for substance use disorders. The nurse's primary role is to assess, monitor, and manage the physical and mental health of patients during their recovery journey. This includes providing support during detoxification, helping manage symptoms, providing teaching and education on disease process, medication management, and facilitating interventions to ensure patients' successful recovery.

You take pride in creating personalized care plans for patients and are able to observe and communicate effectively in your patient's best interest. To succeed, you should have demonstrated knowledge and skill in current nursing practices as well as a strong penchant for solving problems.
Responsibilities
Patient Assessment and Monitoring:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments to evaluate the physical and mental health needs of patients entering substance use recovery programs.
- Regularly assess vital signs, mental status, and overall health, documenting changes and reporting concerns to the medical team.
Patient Education and Support:
- Educate patients about substance use disorders, treatment options, and the recovery process to support long-term sobriety.
- Provide counseling and motivational support to help patients build coping mechanisms and navigate the challenges of recovery.
- Lead or facilitate recovery-related educational sessions or groups as part of the therapeutic process.
Relapse Prevention and Aftercare Planning:
- Develop and implement relapse prevention strategies tailored to each patient, including support for managing cravings and triggers.
- Prepare patients for discharge or transition to long-term recovery programs, ensuring they have the tools and resources needed for continued sobriety.
- Educate patients on aftercare services, including outpatient therapy, support groups, and community resources.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of patient assessments, treatments, medications, and progress.
- Ensure that patient data is documented in accordance with regulatory standards and confidentiality requirements (e.g., HIPAA).
- Provide detailed reports on patient progress to other healthcare providers and stakeholders when necessary.
Crisis Management:
- Respond to medical emergencies or psychiatric crises involving patients with substance use disorders.
- Provide crisis intervention, including de-escalation techniques and appropriate medical interventions.
- Ensure that patients in crisis receive the care and support needed, collaborating with mental health professionals as necessary.
Qualifications
- Currently licensed Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Ohio
- Previous experience as a Registered Nurse in a Substance USe treatment setting is preferred
- Excellent interpersonal and client care skills
- Valid driver’s license
- First aid/CPR certification required
- Knowledge or certification in Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) is a plus.
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong clinical knowledge of substance use disorders, addiction medicine, and recovery processes.
- Ability to assess and manage withdrawal symptoms and other medical conditions associated with substance use.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively educate and support patients and collaborate with healthcare team members.
- Knowledge of evidence-based practices in addiction treatment, including relapse prevention strategies.
- Ability to provide compassionate and non-judgmental care, fostering a supportive environment for recovery.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple patients and their treatment needs simultaneously.
Working Conditions:
- Full-time, part-time, or shift-based work, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Work in a healthcare setting or addiction treatment facility, possibly with exposure to challenging behaviors or medical emergencies.
- The environment may include patients in various stages of recovery, including those experiencing withdrawal or crisis situations.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift, move, and assist patients as needed.
- Prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting.
- The role may require responding to medical emergencies and working under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to handle exposure to bodily fluids and potential environmental hazards in clinical settings.
