Job Description - Substitute CDL Bus Driver (Temporary Assignment)
Job Summary:
The Substitute CDL Bus Driver is responsible for safely operating a school bus to transport general education and special education students to and from school and related activities. This temporary role requires adherence to all district policies, traffic laws, and safety procedures while maintaining a safe and orderly environment for students during transport.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Safely transport students to and from school and designated locations promptly.
Operate the school bus in compliance with all local, state, and federal traffic laws and regulations.
Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections; document and report any mechanical issues or malfunctions.
Follow district procedures for handling vehicle breakdowns, accidents, and emergencies.
Maintain cleanliness and basic upkeep of the assigned bus.
Adhere to all district policies and procedures regarding student pick-up and drop-off locations.
Ensure all students safely board and exit the bus at each stop and at the conclusion of each route.
Monitor student behavior during transport and maintain a safe, orderly environment.
Address student behavior concerns appropriately and report incidents to the school administration promptly.
Report to work promptly as scheduled, follow assigned routes, and utilize time efficiently.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor.
Education (Preferred):
High School Diploma or equivalent (e.g., GED)
Work Experience:
Minimum 2 years of driving experience, must be at least 21 years of age.
Valid Texas Commercial Driver’s License required

Must be able to read, speak, and comprehend English and have good written and verbal command of the English language.
Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment, which does not subject the employee to any hazardous or unpleasant elements.
Ability to carry and/or lift less than 50 pounds.
Ability to communicate effectively, interpret policy, and procedures
Maintain emotional control under stress
Sitting for long durations of time while operating a motor vehicle.
