Summer Bus Driver

**70+ Passenger Bus** | CDL REQUIRED

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Bus Driver at the Greater Peoria Family YMCA provides safe transportation to and from program sites while maintaining a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals.

1. Must adhere to all traffic laws, safety regulations, and company policies.
2. Must have a valid CDL endorsement on Valid IL. Driver’s license
3. Develops and maintains positive relationships with volunteers, members or program participants, and colleagues at all levels of the organization.
4. Creates a safe environment in which others feel welcome and respected.
5. Maintains order and disciple on the bus and reports all incidents to Youth development supervisor.
6. Assist passengers boarding and exiting the bus, as needed.
7. Promotes safety at all times by keeping first aid supplies fully stocked.
8. Ensure that bus rules are announced and followed.
9. Completes thorough before-and-after trip checks each day and records all information, such as gas level, mileage, and maintenance on designated forms. 
10. Report any incidents, accidents, or vehicle issues promptly to the supervisor.
11. Communicate well with leadership & staff at locations where we pick up or drop off students.
12. Follow a set schedule and adapt to route changes as necessary.
13. Cleans out bus each day.
14. Communicate regularly with other staff members and supervisor. 
15. Verifies student attendance on bus both at pick-up and drop-off.

 QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum age of 21.
• At least one-year work experience as a bus driver preferred.
• Possess Valid CDL class license.
• Knowledge of the rules/guidelines related to commercial passenger vehicles (bus).
• Certifications required within 30 days of hire: CPR and First Aid.
• Desire and ability to work with children.
• Track record of building relationships with staff, volunteers, and parents.

SCHEDULE, DURATION & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• August-May | 2pm-6pm when school is in session.
• May-August | 9am-3pm and during school’s day out times.
