Summer Camp Counselor Lower School Art & STEM Camp

Reports to:  Interim Director of Extended Day

Primary Responsibilities:  Supervise students’ indoor and outdoor play with joy and enthusiasm. Promote and facilitate compliance with Hamlin health and safety guidelines.

Classification:  Part-time/Non-exempt

Work Schedule: Camp season runs June 23 - August 8, 2025, with mandatory training prior to start.  Daily schedule is Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM or 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Lower School Art & STEM Camp is looking for enthusiastic and responsible Summer Camp Counselors to guide and support campers in grades 1–4 throughout their week of discovery and creativity. Each Counselor is assigned to a consistent group of campers and is responsible for chaperoning them to daily art and STEM activities, which are led by dedicated Specialists. Counselors help create a positive, safe, and encouraging environment as campers explore hands-on projects, participate in STEM challenges, and enjoy weekly field trips to local parks.

• Supervise and support a group of campers throughout the camp day.


• Chaperone campers between specialty activity periods led by Specialists.


• Plan and lead daily Group Time activity with camper group.


• Build strong, positive relationships with campers to promote a fun and inclusive environment.


• Support Specialists during activities by helping manage camper participation and behavior.


• Ensure camper safety at all times, including during transitions and outdoor play.


• Provide active supervision and support during snack, recess, and lunch times.


• Encourage participation, teamwork, and respectful behavior within the group.


• Assist with camper needs including basic first aid, emotional support, behavior management and conflict resolution.


• Participate in weekly field trips and supervise campers in public settings.


• Communicate with fellow counselors and camp leadership as needed.

• Must be at least 16 years old.


• Experience working with children, preferably in a camp, classroom, or childcare setting.


• Friendly, dependable, and patient with a genuine enthusiasm for working with kids.


• Strong communication and leadership skills.


• CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).


• Ability to stay active and engaged throughout the day, including outdoor activities.
  

Preferred Qualifications:

• Interest or background in child development, education, or youth programs.


• Previous experience in a camp or group leadership setting.

Work authorization requirements:

• Clear the Department of Justice background screening  (Livescan) if over 18 year old


• Authorized to work in the United States (I-9)
  


• Provide health (TB) clearance (update every 4 years)
