Position Overview

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled special education teacher to lead our ICAN Read & Write summer program for neurodiverse children in grades K-2. This program aims to provide a supportive and engaging environment for students to maintain and develop their skills throughout the summer months. The ideal candidate will have experience working with children with disabilities and excellent problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead a mixed-aged classroom, in which many children will be accompanied with 1:1 support staff


• Plan and organize daily activities aligned with program goals and themes


• Lead engaging lessons and activities that promote school readiness and academic skill maintenance


• Facilitate structured and unstructured opportunities for social skill development and peer interaction


• Collaborate with SLPs, OTs, PTs, and BCBAs to ensure comprehensive support for students


• Manage classroom materials and resources


• Communicate regularly with parents and therapy team regarding student progress, challenges, and successes


• Foster inclusive environment and champion the classroom culture

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Elementary Education, or related field


• Active Washington State teaching certification preferred


• At least 2 years of experience working with children with special needs


• Experience in planning and organizing group activities for children


• Knowledge of individualized education strategies for students with diverse needs


• Strong communication and problem-solving skills


• Patience, empathy, and ability to work with children who may exhibit barrier behaviors


• Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams (SLPs, OTs, PTs, BCBAs)
