Superintendent-In-Training

Kalos Services is looking to hire a Superintendent-In-Training (SIT) to develop into a field leader through hands-on training, coaching, and progressively greater responsibility. This is a field-first development opportunity for someone who wants to build a long-term career in construction leadership.

Working alongside an experienced Superintendent Coach, the SIT will develop skills in jobsite planning, crew and subcontractor coordination, safety, quality control, scheduling, documentation, customer communication, and project closeout.

As proficiency is demonstrated, the SIT will take on increasing responsibility and may lead defined project phases or lower-risk projects within their assigned authority. Complex or safety-critical work will remain under experienced field leadership, with issues outside the assigned scope escalated appropriately.

Compensation: $25.00/hr - $35.00/hr (based on experience)

Schedule: Varies based on project scope. Work weeks generally range from 40–60 hours and may include nights, weekends, after-hours emergencies, and out-of-town travel throughout Florida. 

Responsibilities:

• Participate in the assigned Superintendent development plan, including field rotations, technical and safety training, coaching meetings, proficiency reviews, and documented development goals.
• Shadow and support the Superintendent Coach with daily or nightly planning, crew assignments, subcontractor coordination, logistics, inspections, documentation, and customer communication.
• Learn to read and apply drawings, specifications, submittals, Requests for Information, approved changes, schedules, and project procedures to field execution.
• Assist with daily and short-term work planning, look-ahead schedules, milestone tracking, manpower planning, material coordination, deliveries, equipment, and site access.
• Conduct or support pre-task planning, toolbox talks, jobsite walks, quality observations, and safety inspections under appropriate supervision.
• Maintain accurate daily reports, manpower information, progress photographs, issue logs, inspection records, punch lists, and other assigned project documentation.
• Observe installed work and promptly report safety concerns, quality deficiencies, conflicts, delays, material shortages, incomplete work, or changed field conditions.
• Coordinate routine information with crews, subcontractors, vendors, Project Managers, inspectors, and internal teams within the authority delegated by the Superintendent Coach.
• Lead approved lower-risk work, single-trade assignments, day CapEx projects, EV installations, or defined project phases after the required readiness review and with established support and escalation paths.
• Confirm assigned work areas are safe, organized, documented, and prepared for inspections, turnover, or reopening, as applicable.
• Practice effective day-to-night, night-to-day, and temporary-coverage handoffs using established company expectations and documentation.
• Seek clarification when requirements or authority are unclear and promptly escalate decisions involving safety, significant cost, scope, schedule, customer commitments, or personnel actions.
• Accept coaching and feedback, complete assigned development actions, and demonstrate progressive proficiency in field leadership responsibilities.
• Support a professional, accountable, inclusive, and safety-focused jobsite culture.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support project execution and development readiness.

• Minimum of 2 years of commercial construction field, trade, Assistant Superintendent, project coordination, or comparable experience preferred.
• Related construction degree or completion of an approved internal development path may substitute for a portion of the experience requirement.
• Foundational understanding of construction drawings, specifications, schedules, jobsite safety, quality expectations, project documentation, and commercial construction sequencing.
• Strong reliability, learning agility, communication, organization, problem-solving skills, and willingness to accept coaching and take on increasing responsibility.
• Basic proficiency with Google Workspace and the ability to learn construction management and scheduling applications.
• OSHA 10 certification required or must be obtained within the company-established timeframe. OSHA 30 certification is expected as part of the development program.
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record required.
• Must be willing to travel and work variable schedules, including occasional nights and weekends, as development assignments require.

Physical & Environmental Requirements:

• Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, position, and maneuver tools, materials, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, reach, and maintain balance while navigating active jobsites.
• Ability to work at elevated heights using ladders, scaffolding, aerial lifts, and fall-protection systems when trained and authorized.
• Ability to work in active indoor and outdoor construction environments involving heat, cold, humidity, rain, dust, noise, low-light conditions, uneven surfaces, moving equipment, and occupied facilities.
• Ability to travel to project sites and work variable schedules, including occasional nights or weekends, as development assignments require.
