We are seeking an experienced Supervising Substation Engineer to lead multidisciplinary engineering teams in the successful delivery of high-voltage substation projects. This leadership role is responsible for managing project execution, resource allocation, quality, schedules, and profitability while providing technical guidance and oversight throughout all phases of engineering and design.

The ideal candidate is a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) with extensive experience in substation engineering, project management, and team leadership. This position offers the opportunity to oversee complex utility infrastructure projects while mentoring engineering professionals and collaborating across departments to achieve project success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise multiple engineering project teams to ensure successful project execution.
  • Manage project quality, schedules, budgets, and overall profitability.
  • Assign engineering resources based on project requirements, staffing availability, and workload.
  • Coordinate engineering activities with project engineers, construction teams, purchasing, clients, and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure project teams follow project-specific standards, engineering best practices, and company quality processes.
  • Monitor project progress and proactively address schedule, budget, and resource challenges.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules and budgets to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery.
  • Perform engineering analysis using industry-standard software for: Ground grid design, Relay coordination, Transformer sizing, Short-circuit studies, Load flow studies
  • Perform engineering design and project engineering duties as needed to support project schedules.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable engineering standards, including NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, and ANSI.
  • Maintain project documentation using the company's document management system.
  • Promote accountability, teamwork, and ownership among engineering staff.
  • Maintain Job Safety Analysis (JSA) documentation.
  • Travel periodically to support project and client needs.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE). Candidates licensed in another state must be eligible to obtain licensure in the practicing state within one year of hire.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in electrical substation engineering.
  • Extensive experience in both substation engineering and design.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multiple engineering teams and manage several concurrent projects.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Experience managing multidisciplinary teams consisting of engineers, designers, and drafters.
  • Extensive knowledge of high-voltage electrical substations (138kV and above) and associated equipment.
  • Strong understanding of AC/DC fundamentals and three-phase power systems.
  • Proficiency with engineering application software used for substation design and analysis.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of applicable engineering standards, including: NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, ANSI
  • Experience interpreting and producing engineering drawings and design documentation.
  • Strong project planning, scheduling, and resource management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate project goals and collaborate across departments.

Physical Requirements

  • Primarily office-based work with prolonged periods of sitting and computer use.
  • Occasional outdoor exposure to varying weather conditions and construction environments.
  • Ability to travel overnight approximately 10% of the time for project meetings, training, and client support.
  • Ability to work extended hours, including occasional evenings and weekends, as project needs require.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
