Overview

The Supervisor-Fleet Services supervises, monitors, oversees, and provides direction for all shop mechanics performing heavy and light duty automotive repair for the City's Fleet vehicles. Supervises clerical, administrative, trade, and complex technical functions and vendors.

The Shop Supervisor Fleet Services: Supervises, supports, and provides leadership and management to employees performing maintenance, repair work, and related activities. The supervisor sets schedules, manages safety compliance, monitors crews, and provides performance feedback and assistance.

Preference: This position is unique to each supervisory role based on team assignment and application alignments. The details below apply specifically to members of the Make Ready and Body Shop teams.

Substantial hiring preference will be granted to applicants who possess vehicle customizing or upfitting experience at Hensley Field.

Essential Functions

1 Directs, supervises, and monitors shop productivity; assists and supports mechanics with technical repairs and diagnosis, conducts shop meetings with direct reports, conducts technical training, and performs employee evaluations,
reviews, and counseling; analyzes department vehicle availability and assigns repairs accordingly.

2 Directs and coordinates shop services, inventory, and parts management; coaches or and gives technical and mechanical direction as needed; resolves challenging and complex problems that arise and makes independent decisions to positively impact the shop functions and service delivery.

3 Creates and maintains monthly paperwork and logs pertaining to City credit card; conducts yearly mechanic tool list inventory, researches needed tools, requests purchases from management, and maintains bulk fluids inventory; submits accident and injury reports.

4 Makes adjustments in work priorities, projects schedules, resources, and work plans as required; assigns and oversees work orders, maintenance, requests, servicing and maintenance activities, and other related work; conducts service audits and inspections, oversees the maintenance of log sheets and obtain permits as needed.

5 Reviews, evaluates, and inspects work for quality; evaluates work performance, delivers feedback and training, and may recommend awards for employees.

6 Coaches, advises, counsels, and instructs employees and staff managing the shop, parts, and providing services and maintenance; identifies training needs for employees.

7 Interviews, evaluates, and may make selection or recommendations on candidates for filling positions; evaluates skills and knowledge to ensure all services are completed competently, safely, and efficiently.

8 Hears and resolves complaints from employees or groups of employees; refers group grievances or serious complaints to higher level supervisors or managers; gives first level of disciplinary actions; makes recommendations on other disciplinary actions.

9 Finds, develops, and implements methods to improve production or effectiveness of the services and fleet parts management; conducts and participates in meetings to ensure all activities are meeting customer needs and being performed professionally.

10 Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.

Knowledge and Skills

1 Expert knowledge of automotive vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair.

2 Thorough knowledge of advanced diagnostic techniques and providing advanced inspection.

3 Knowledge of shop safety.

4 Ability to perform complicated automotive repairs.

5 Ability to diagnose complex electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems in light and heavy duty automotive vehicles.

6 Ability to direct, train, and supervise clerical, administrative, and trade employees.

7 Ability to use electronic scanners.

8 Ability to inspect and evaluate mechanical work and maintenance activities.

9 Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.

10 Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: 

  • High school diploma or GED. 

EXPERIENCE:

  • Six (6) years of experience in the mechanical repair of gasoline or diesel-powered automobiles or trucks.

AND

  • Two (2) years of supervisory/ lead work experience. (This experience may be included in the required experience listed above.) 

LICENSES:

  • Valid driver's license with good driving record.

  • Must be able to obtain a Texas class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within the probationary period.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: 

  • May be subject to inclement weather.

  • Subject to a 24-hour emergency call-out.

  • Availability to work varying shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays. 



Salary Range

 

$60,569.60 - $73,528.00
