Job Description - Supervisor Occupational Therapy






Where You’ll Work






St. Joseph Health Grimes Hospital is a 25- bed critical access hospital in Navasota, Texas offering a Level IV Trauma Center, in-patient and out-patient services, physical therapy, emergency care, occupational therapy, skilled nursing care, injury treatment and more. 

The ED includes a triage room, 5 patient rooms and a central nurses' station. The ED maintains a specific designation for Stroke and Trauma care and is equipped with 24-hour emergency services, laboratory, and CT scans.









Job Summary and Responsibilities






As our Occupational Therapist Supervisor, you will provide essential in-home occupational therapy services under physician's orders. Your role involves evaluating home safety, assessing functional needs, and implementing tailored treatment to promote independence.

Every day you will evaluate home safety, assess functional needs of physically disabled patients, then develop, plan, and implement individualized occupational therapy treatment procedures.

To be successful, you will demonstrate strong assessment, treatment planning, and implementation skills for in-home care. Excellent communication for patient education and a commitment to promoting independence and safety are essential.

  • Supervises the clinical staff, rehabilitation techs, students, and office staff in a respectful, courteous and consistent manner. Responsible for daily assignments, monthly schedules, and vacation scheduling to provide appropriate staff levels for the department/clinic/health system while achieving productivity standards. Ensures staffing levels meet patient, departmental, and health system needs.
  • Responsible for recruitment, hiring, scheduling, counseling, providing feedback on performance issues including disciplinary action, and performance evaluation. Oversees clinical development of therapy staff to include orientation, competency assessment, ongoing education and training. Ensures 100% of licensed staff maintain licensure.
  • In concert with the Patient Access leadership team, supervises the operations of the front office to ensure efficient and timely scheduling, insurance verification, registration, authorization, and patient flow. Ensures delivery of exceptional customer service. Works with the therapy manager to ensure proper coding, billing, and health information management processes are appropriate and compliant.
  • Collects, analyzes and uses data in order to improve the quality of services provided. Models and reinforces a continuous improvement culture (e.g., understands and promotes national quality indicators). Assists in development and coordination of therapy performance improvement studies. Assists in reviewing, developing and implementing policy, procedures and protocols. Ensures compliance with Joint Commission, CMS Conditions of Participation, and all federal and state regulations.
  • Responsible for managing labor distribution productivity, supply expenditures, and patient satisfaction data. Assists in cost control through efficient use of supplies to maximize allocated resources. Practices inventory control and orders all supplies, equipment, and materials. Independently completes daily standard work in a thorough, organized, efficient and timely manner.
  • Fosters effective communication with physicians, nurses, therapists, students, volunteers, patients, families and other hospital personnel to establish department rapport. Keeps lines of communication open with staff to ensure strong employee engagement. Maintains positive physician relations and effectively resolves complaints or concerns from patients, families, staff and physicians timely. Conducts effective departmental and team meetings. Collaborates with all members of the therapy leadership team to achieve health system goals.








Job Requirements






Required

  • Bachelors Other Occupational Therapy or other related field (SLP or PT) and 2 years of clinical experience, upon hire and
  • Occupational Therapist: TX, upon hire, or Speech Language Pathology: TX upon hire, or Physical Therapist: TX upon hire
  • Basic Life Support - CPR, within 14 - days


Preferred

  • Masters Other Occupational Therapy and 1-2 years of leadership experience, upon hire
