Physician positions are a mission critical occupation for HRSA. These positions are responsible for formulation of policy and programs administered by Health Resources and Services Administration to provide advice and assistance to Bureaus, Department of Health and Human Services, and other Federal entities as related to the medical aspects of primary health care programs for underserved populations.

This position is located in the Health Resources and Services Administration, Health Systems Bureau, Division of Transplantation, Organs Transplantation Branch. The duty location for this position is in Rockville, MD.

As a Supervisory Physician within the Division of Transplantation you will service as the Branch Chief and support the administration of the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network and the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients.

Your major duties and responsibilities include:

Serving as a clinical advisor to the Division of Transplantation (DOT) and Health Systems Bureau (HSB) on issues surrounding organ donation and transplantation.Providing clinical and programmatic expertise on the development of new and special initiatives related to organ donation and transplantation, including monitoring the Organ Procurement Transplantation Network policy development process and data analysis associated with the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients. Coordinating policy and other issues with various Department of Health and Human Services agencies that have a role in organ donation and transplantation, and other federal Departments as necessary.Planning, supervising, and coordinating completion of periodic reports, development of responses to a wide variety of public, media, and Congressional requests, specialized inquiries, and other products.Directing the work of subordinate staff and performing the full range of supervisory functions. Developing short and long-range plans for the branch and monitoring them to ensure the achievement of goals and objectives. Degree: You must have a Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the , , , or an accrediting body recognized by the at the time the degree was obtained.OR B. Have a Degree from Foreign Medical School: A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country. You must provide a copy of your transcripts, foreign equivalency, or ECFMG results with your application. Failure to do so will result in you being rated ineligible for this position.OR Documentation that verifies successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.ANDGRADUATE TRAINING: Your resume must clearly indicate the starting (MM/YYYY) and ending dates (MM/YYYY) and where the training was completed.Graduate Training: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training. Graduate training programs include only those internship, residency, and fellowship programs that are approved by accrediting bodies recognized within the United States or Canada. Descriptions of such programs are described below:An internship program involves broadly based clinical practice in which physicians acquire experience in treating a variety of medical problems under supervision (e.g., internal medicine, surgery, general practice, obstetrics-gynecology, and pediatrics). Such programs are in hospitals or other institutions accredited for internship training by a recognized body of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).A residency program involves training in a specialized field of medicine in a hospital or an institution accredited for training in the specialty by a recognized body of the American Medical Association (AMA) or Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).A fellowship program involves advanced training (beyond residency training) in a given medical specialty in either a clinical or research setting in a hospital or an institution accredited in the United States for such training.AND

For this GS-15 level position, you must have five (5) years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled OR equivalent experience and training. Appropriate specialties are those related to the position being filled such as Surgery or Thoracic Surgery.
