Support Specialist

Avant Supported Living is seeking Community-based Support Specialist to assist individuals with developmental disabilities.

The Community-based Support Specialist may work in any of these areas:

Community Networking Staff

One-to-one or small group community networking services help individuals with disabilities develop and maintain independence and executive function skills. Our goal is to give individuals the tools they need so they may carry out key life tasks as independently as possible while communicating more effectively with others.

Primary duties may include:

• Unpaid and paid employment opportunities


• Companionship and mentorship


• Shopping


• Transporting to appointments


• Banking and budgeting


• Using public transportation


• Social interaction


• Recreation and leisure activities


• Accompaniment, cueing, and minor problem-solving necessary to achieve increased independence, productivity, and inclusion in the individual’s community

In-Home Respite Staff

Avant Supported Living’s in-home respite care is offered to individuals who are unable to care for themselves on a short-term basis. The purpose of this service is to provide temporary care due to the absence or need for relief of the people who normally provide care to the individual.

Primary duties may include:

• Companionship and mentorship


• Extension of therapies and exercise


• Care of adaptive equipment


• Meal preparation and feeding


• Incidental household cleaning and laundry


• Bathing


• Toileting


• Transfer and ambulation


• Skin care


• Grooming


• Dressing

Required Experience

Experience supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities is preferred, but NOT required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED


• Valid Driver's License


• Reliable vehicle with current car insurance


• Approved background checks (FCSR and MVR)


• Candidates must successfully complete required training


• Experience supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities is required.

Schedule:

• 10 hour shift


• 8 hour shift


• Day shift


• Monday to Friday


• Weekends as needed

Experience:

• Caregiving: 1 year (Preferred)

Ability to Relocate:

• Columbia, MO 65203: Relocate before starting work (Required)
