Job Summary:

The Production Superintendent is responsible for ensuring that the production plan (budget) for the Ammonia Plant is met in a safe, efficient, timely, and cost-effective manner each and every day. This position directs, develops, and manages the Production Department toward continued accomplishment of its objective of the safe, timely production, storage, and shipment of product in the correct quantity, quality, and cost. Planning, coordinating, communicating, and controlling are major responsibilities of this position.

Job Summary:

The Production Superintendent is responsible for ensuring that the production plan (budget) for the Ammonia Plant is met in a safe, efficient, timely, and cost-effective manner each and every day. This position directs, develops, and manages the Production Department toward continued accomplishment of its objective of the safe, timely production, storage, and shipment of pro­duct in the correct quantity, qual­ity, and cost.  Planning, coordinating, communicating, and controlling are major re­sponsibilities of this position.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Embraces safety and environmental stewardship as a core value of leadership.
  • Develops and maintains effective relationships with other departments at Waggaman to obtain the re­quired assistance in meeting departmental objec­tives.
  • Prepares and administers the department budget.
  • Develops and maintains effective employee rela­tions.
  • Maintains effective programs in safety, cost con­trol and reporting, and manpower training, develop­ment, and utiliza­tion.
  • Monitors plant operating conditions and takes nec­essary corrective actions to meet department objectives.
  • Directs and/or recommends necessary changes to plant pro­cesses, equipment, procedures, or staffing to meet departmen­tal objectives.
  • Coordinates the performance of the Production De­partment.
  • Prepares operating strategy to meet production plan.
  • Coaches and develops Production Department Supervi­sors.
  • Maintains effective communications and working re­lationships with employees throughout the plant.
  • Mobilizes quickly without acting impulsively, show­ing good judgment.
  • Acts on one's own initiative, and coordinates ac­tions to plans of the Plant Manager.
  • Works independently and under conditions of high inter­dependency.
  • Develops and implements operational plans which deal with such activities as maintenance turn­arounds and employee development programs as well as producing product in a timely and efficient man­ner.

Internal Controls:

  • Establishes and implements processes and procedures to meet departmental internal controls requirements.
  • Ensures that established processes/procedures are followed as designed. 
  • Works with Internal Controls Department to identify deficiencies in existing processes/procedures, the need for new ones, and the extent to which such processes/procedures are being followed. 
  • Develops and implements corrective actions with regard to department internal controls as necessary.

Required Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Engineering
  • 10+ years of supervisory experience in a chemical manufacturing facility.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC).
  • Effective leadership skills.
  • Exposure to project management and implementation.
  • Solid communication skills including the ability to effectively converse in English, compose written documents and interact effectively with peers and supervisors.
  • Familiar with applicable codes, regulations and standards.
