Job Description - Surgery Scheduler/Financial Counselor for ENT in NW Portland

Join us at The Oregon Clinic as a full-time (Patient Services Specialist III) Surgery Scheduler/Financial Counselor (Hybrid/Remote). Using excellent customer service and communications skills, your primary duties in this role include:



  • Promotes efficient physician scheduling and patient access by properly scheduling/rescheduling patients’ appointments according to all office protocols and physician requests in an efficient and timely manner.

  • Coordination of care between clinic and surgery centers.

  • Maintain surgical block schedules as required by each institution.  

  • Answering phones on multi-line system and may back up other staff.

  • Obtaining and completing insurance information.

  • Processing of incoming referrals and electronic fax submissions.  

  • Updating registration and EMR records as needed.

  • Responsible for performing collection duties for insured and self-pay patients. 

  • Preparation of financial estimates for patients.

  • Interprets and communicates out-of-pocket expenses to patients and completes assistance applications as needed. May contact insurance carriers, providers, and meet with patients proactively.

  • Establishes and monitors payment plans, including accepting/posting payments and adjustments to patient accounts. Manages delinquent balances and works on aging accounts receivable.

  • Other duties as assigned.


Salary:


Hiring range, based on experience and credentials: 



  • Level III: $23.71-$32.07 per hour. 


Workdays: This role is located at the Montgomery Park Building. Free employee parking is available! Hybrid/Remote work is available once training is completed and expectations are met. Must live in Portland or SW Washington. Typical hours are Monday-Friday, (8:00 am-5:00 pm).


Qualifications that support success in this role are based on education, experience and values including:



  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience in a medical office healthcare setting, healthcare insurance company, or managed care organization is required.

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a medical billing/collection position is preferred.

  • Minimum of one (2) years of previous experience in Surgery or other complex scheduling is required.

  • Prior Electronic Medical Record (EMR) experience is preferred. Epic experience is a plus!

  • Familiarity with medical billing practices, insurance coding, insurance, and referral processes.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to initiate, work independently, and effectively multitask.

  • Excellent attendance and work ethic.

  • Positive attitude and desire to be a team player.

  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with patients, physicians, and other team members.

  • A commitment to patient-focused care, privacy, and safety.
